How to get a great looking décolletage

Finding the perfect party dress for Saturday night is a hard enough task without throwing in a fear of necklines. When it comes to our body, we are known to be our own worst critic, which means that we often pass by stunning dresses with the mindset that only Miranda Kerr would ever be able to wear it.

It takes a lot of confidence to pull off a plunging neckline, or even just a low-cut top for that matter, but one of the great things about being a woman is that we have plenty of products and tricks to help boost our confidence. So get ready to throw away your fears and your turtlenecks because here’s how you can achieve your best-looking bosom and sport any type of neckline.

Exfoliate

The first step to getting good looking décolletage is to make the skin on your chest as flawless as possible. Start by removing any dead skin cells using a body scrub like Bomb Cosmetics Pink Marmalade Body Scrub. Apply in the shower and gently scrub the area using a soft, circular motion. Finish with a hydrating moisturiser.

Tan

The most common low-cut neckline faux pas is when the colour of your chest doesn’t match the complexion of your face. To ensure this doesn’t happen, make sure you tan the night before, using a product such as St Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mouse. Apply the fake tan evenly across your chest and neck, all the way up to your jaw line. Make sure you go braless until it dries to avoid making any marks. If you’re unsure whether you need to tan or not, apply a dab of your foundation onto your chest and note any difference in colour.

Conceal

Just as you conceal blemishes on your face, so should you conceal blemishes on your décolletage. Revlon ColorStay Blemish Concealer with Softflex works just as well on your body as your face and will help to hide any imperfections. Make sure you use a colour similar to your tanned skin so that it blends well.

Contour & highlight

Even bigger breasted women can end up looking somewhat flat in a plunging neckline if they don’t contour properly. Use a bronzer, such as Avon Arabian Glow Bronzing Pearls and a large powder brush, and sweep the bronzer from the top of your breast (where your bra strap would meet the cup) down into the inner edge of your cleavage. The motion will resemble that of a semi-oval and should be repeated on both breasts. Finish off by applying a highlighting powder, like MARY KAY Mineral Highlighting Powder, along your collarbones and down the middle of your cleavage.
