Hands up if you think it’s a great idea to kick-start your new fitness goals in winter so by the time summer rolls around, you’re feelin’ fine?
OK – probably most of us. Now, hands up if when your alarm goes off at 6am for that morning run in the winter chill, you immediately hit the snooze button? We thought so.
And we don’t blame you! Now that winter’s here, it’s harder than ever to keep on track with your fitness goals when a cuppa, trackies and the heater are more appealing than pounding the pavement in the cold.
Try our simple tricks to keep you from falling off the fitness bandwagon and keep you on track to reaching your fitness and weight-loss goals this winter.
Get in the mood with a mood board
Whether it’s a summer holiday that you want to look and feel amazing for, or if you want to achieve your best beach body, set yourself some small and achievable goals for the months ahead. Try creating a mood board of your fitness goals, including quotes, pictures of people who inspire you – even colours that are known to energise, such as gold, yellow or orange. Place it somewhere in your house that you’ll see every morning, such as on the fridge, your bedroom wall, or the back of the bathroom door. There’s no escaping that motivation!
Treat yourself to some new workout gear
There’s no denying it – when you buy new clothes, you cannot WAIT to wear them. So the same should go for workout clothes, right?! Stock up on those warm hoodies, tops and bright runners that you’ve been eyeing, and no doubt you’ll wind up sporting them on your next powerwalk in no time.
Download a killer workout playlist
What artists get you off your seat when you have a night out? Beyoncé? Justin Timberlake? Old school Christina Aguilera? Load up your iPod with your favourite dance tracks that’ll not only get you a teeny bit excited about your workout, but also keep you sweating it out up that hill, track after track.
Get a gym membership
How many times have you used the excuse that it’s raining or it’s too cold outside to work out? Lock yourself in to a gym membership and train indoors! Not only will you have your pick of exercise equipment and classes at your disposal, but you’ll also hold yourself liable for actually using the membership because you’re paying for it.
How do you keep motivated during winter? Will you by trying any of these tricks?
