4 healthy lunch ideas for work

Ever wondered where your money goes during the week? It’s quite possible that it disappears because you’re buying takeaway coffees, lunches and snacks. Well, that’s about to change!

I don’t like buying my lunches for work – I prefer to make my own for both health and money reasons. This is mainly because if you want a healthy takeaway option, you might have to pay a bit more for it. And if you want to save some money by buying a more affordable meal, you might have to purchase something that’s not at all healthy.

So, here are some work lunch ideas that will satisfy you and help you save money, while also making sure you don’t get into a food rut and become bored as a result:

1. Chicken wraps: chicken breast, rocket salad, fetta (or ricotta for a healthier option), basil leaves, and cucumber.

2. Tuna salad: tuna, pasta, lemon, mint, pepper, fetta (or ricotta), and capsicum.

3. Mushroom risotto: rice, mushrooms, peas, spinach, and chicken (or fish, or whatever meat you feel like).

4. Fried rice with a twist: rice (or quinoa), with some chilli, garlic, prawns, cherry tomatoes, sesame seeds, oregano, and basil leaves.

I often mix and match stuff that I’ve got in the fridge and pantry with herbs and spices, too. Why not grill your chicken with some oregano, basil and Cajun pepper? Or trying adding capsicum to your tuna salad for a different texture? One thing I love about preparing savoury dishes is that I don’t have to follow the recipes strictly as they will still turn out very tasty! Getting creative in the kitchen will make you enjoy and appreciate your food more and have that feeling of satisfaction after you’ve eaten your lunch!

Money wise, the majority of these ingredients are available to measure or in small quantities, so you won’t be spending a lot of money. (Hint, hint: this means you could splurge on that lippie you’ve been eyeing off!) Calorie wise, you still have about half a day to burn them off, so I’d rather eat a bigger lunch and a smaller dinner, but that’s up to you. My belief is that food is meant to be enjoyed, so go on, have fun with it, get creative, and remember that everything is good for you in moderation!

Do you buy your work lunch daily? Or bring homemade lunches? What are some of your healthy lunch ideas for work?
