Beauty blunders come with the territory when you love make-up as much as us. But instead of shying away from the humiliation, we’re wandering down memory lane and saying, boy, have we come a long way!
So come and join our little pity party…and even share your own tales, if you dare!
“My worst beauty blunder was when I let my mum do my hair and make-up for my friend’s Debutante Ball. I had my hair in rollers with a shower cap over them while mum did my make-up. When we got the professional photos back you could see a line where there was no foundation because it was covered by the shower cap whilst Mum was putting it on!” – Kathleen
“During a phase of tricky and terribly expensive haircuts in my early 20s, I once had a fringe so short the hairdresser decided she’d cut into my natural hairline in an effort to make it sit better. Little did I know this is a major hair don’t and I would spend the next year growing out little spikes. Horrific.” – Alicia, bh Editor
“I managed to make three blunders all at the same time as a late teen: overdosing on Garnier Ambre Solaire Bronz Up Moisturising Milk – leaving me with obvious orange streaks and shocking stained palms, over-plucking my brows and trying to draw them back on again and attempting a DIY platinum dye job on my dark brown hair. The result? Bright orange hair to match the fake tan! Lesson learnt: less is so much more.” – Melissa
“There have been many but I’d say the worst was probably my ill-fated decision to invest in Rimmel London’s limited edition Purple Rain lipstick and eyeshadow and then proceeding to wear both on Christmas day circa 1997. Let’s just say purple + pasty = putrid.” – Sarah, bh Editorial Assistant
“My biggest beauty blunder – wow there’s so many to chose from! – was when I was just learning to apply make-up and didn’t really know how to use it. I used black eye shadow as eyeliner and absolutely caked on stick foundation, which made my skin really breakout. Panda eyed, no mascara, shiny faced…ugh!” – SMP-kitten
“My biggest beauty blunder occurred around six years ago. My friends and I would wait, for what seemed like an eternity, for the dances at our local brother school to come around. We were getting into make-up pretty wholeheartedly and were under the impression that the more glitter we covered our faces with, the more the boys would like us. We literally covered our entire lids, spread some on our lips and then dolloped a blob of glitter paste on the outer region of each eye for good measure. They didn’t need disco balls in the hall at those dances, we were quite enough!” – Olivia, bh Office Assistant
“The beauty blunder that springs to mind is my Year 10 formal, which was over twenty years ago! I was too heavy handed with applying black eye liner and ended up looking like a raccoon gone wrong!” – Penne
“My biggest beauty blunder was when I started experimenting with darker “goth” looks. I thought black eyeshadow and lipstick were awesome. I’m glad to report I’ve refined myself!” – Katie
