For the past seven years, I have proudly called myself a beauty journalist.
I have attended launches, interviewed celebrities, trialled a plethora of products and met some of the most incredible professionals in the beauty world.
In that time, I’ve asked for answers to some of the most burning beauty questions and relished the tips, applying them to my own beauty routine in a bid to enhance the way I look and feel. I think it’s only fair that I share the love, right?
Here are the best beauty tips from the best beauty professionals I’ve come across…
Kristin Barnes, eyebrow artist and founder of Kristin Fisher Eyebrows
bh: What does it take to have incredible brows?
KB: Regular maintenance and a brow tint tailored to your specific colouring. A brow tint ensures your brows always look groomed without having to tend to them each day with products.
bh recommends: 1000 Hour Eyelash & Brow Dye Kit
bh: What are your top tips for ‘filling in’ or grooming your brows each morning?
KB: Always brush the hairs upwards and outwards. Then start to fill them in with your powder or pencil through the sparse, front section and again through the arch and tail of your brow. I always finish off with a brow gel to hold the hairs in place.

Jocelyn Petroni, celebrity skin expert and founder of Jocelyn Petroni
bh: What is your absolute best skin care advice?
JP: Drink water and don’t smoke. Smoking depletes oestrogen levels in the skin plus it slows blood and lymph flows, which internally detoxify, feed and nourish the skin. Water flushes the blood, which cleanses the skin).
bh: What is the biggest mistake people make when it comes to skin?
JP: Not using an eye cream! Skipping this step is detrimental to the delicate skin around your eyes, which is only a third of the thickness of the rest of your face. The eye area needs a cream that’s finer in texture, yet more hydrating and long-lasting because it does not contain oil glands to provide natural nourishment.
bh recommends: Eysilix™ by indeed labs and Mary Kay® TimeWise Plus+™ Regena-Firm™ Correcting Eye Cream.
bh: If you had to recommend one must-have skin care product for everyone, what would it be and why?
JP: Ultraceuticals SPF 30+ (mattifying or tinted) is ultra lightweight so you can wear it every single day without feeling like you’re wearing sunscreen. It leaves no greasy residue and does not result in blocked pores. SPF of 30+ or more should be worn every single day – rain, hail or shine!
Anthony Nader, international hairstylist and owner of RAW Salon
bh: What is the best haircare advice you could ever give someone?
AN: To tame unruly, out-of-control hair, rinse your tresses in the coolest water temperature you can tolerate for about 30 seconds. This tightly closes the hair cuticle, eliminating frizz and imparting a glossy sheen.
bh: What is the best hairstyling trick you’ve ever come across?
AN: Coloured dry shampoo. It’s a sure winner for just about every occasion and doubles up as a spray that not only soaks up oil from your roots, but also gives lacklustre, flat roots a little va-va-voom.”¨
bh recommends: Batiste Coloured Dry Shampoo or Cedel Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair.
bh: If you had to pick one hair care product that every single person should own, what would it be and why?
AN: A clarifying shampoo – your locks will love the weekly detox. It removes any built-up residue from excess products and also cleanses each strand, so it acts like a mini facial for your hair.
bh recommends: Moroccanoil Clarifying Shampoo or Shu Uemura Art of Hair Clarifying Astringent Cleanser Cleansing Oil Shampoo.
