If you’re a gym-goer, you’ll know the post-workout struggle of feeling on top of the world (thank you, endorphins!), while really, really hating on your hair.
It started out as a sleek, low pony, and has now been replaced by a sweaty, frizzy mess. So. Unfair.
But don’t despair – keep that adrenalin flowing, because your ‘do can be salvaged!
And I’m not talking about committing to a full wash and blow-dry. Instead, try these five simple tips for making your mane look great again (even if it’s still a bit schweaty)…
1. Prep your hairline
Before you head to the gym, prepare your strands for battle. Spray your scalp with dry shampoo, focusing on the hairline. This will soak up sweat as you work out (genius, right?!). We love TONI&GUY Hair Care Cleanse Dry Shampoo – it leaves zero white residue.
2. Aim high
Now, get that hair off yo’ face and soon-to-be sweaty neck and forehead. Do this by twisting it up into a topknot and securing with a hair elastic. If your hair’s long enough, braid or plait it before you twist. Then, once you’ve exercised, your hair will have a nice wave to it. To secure the ‘do (and stop sweat from dripping onto your face), you could also slide a bandana or headband over your hairline. We like the Scunci Active 2pk Reflective Head Wrap.
3. Embrace beachy waves
Unless you have poker-straight hair to begin with, you can forget about achieving sleek locks after your workout. But with beach waves on-trend right now, who really cares? Sea salt sprays such as Fudge URBAN Sea Salt are perfect for a post-gym hairdo, as they also make sweat evaporate (#winning). Simply pull apart your updo, tilt your tresses and scrunch it in.
4. Fix your fringe
If you have a fringe (or short layers around your face), a teeny bit more effort is required. Rinse it thoroughly in the sink, taking care not to wet the rest of your hair, then blow-dry it using the cool setting (so you don’t work up any more of a sweat). A travel-size blow-dryer like VS Sassoon Go Travel Dryer – VS5344A won’t take up much room in your gym bag. Alternatively, I’ve been known to use a small round brush and a hand-dryer. Slightly awks, but hey, it’s resourceful!
5. Work with the shine
If spin class was a killer, you’re probably past the point of rocking beachy waves. Or wearing your hair down in general. Thankfully, there’s an equally bangin’ backup style: simply add a little gel to your damp strands (we like Paul Mitchell Super Clean Sculpting Gel) and use a comb to pull it into a low, tight bun or ponytail. You can then strut out of the gym look sleek and chic.
Are you a fan of styling your hair post-workout? Or do you run straight for the shampoo?
