If you dye your hair and also happen to be time-poor, financially strapped or still a few weeks off your next visit to the salon, you’ve come to the right place. And if the crown of your head is littered with dark streaks raining on your platinum blonde parade or pesky greys rearing their uninvited heads, then you’ve definitely come to the right place.
Among some of the best inventions known to man (electricity, the Internet, the process of fermenting grapes into a delicious, drinkable liquid) sits the humble, affordable and game-changing: root touch-up.
These natural-looking sprays and tinted powders instantly mask regrowth until your next hair wash day. The effortless application and seamless blending mean touch-ups from home are as easy as applying your daily mascara without running the risk of any DIY mishaps.
From jet black locks to bright creamy blondes, here are the best root touch-up products you need to be using, now.
Best Root Touch-up
Clairol Root Touch-up Concealing Spray
We say: So you’re trying to touch up those roots, which is a totally valid plight. BUT, come summer is there anything more embarrassing than diving into the pool with perfect-looking locks and coming out… with your roots on full show? It’s a no from us, and luckily Clairol agree, having come up with a sweat-proof, water-resistant formula that also still looks natural and blends seamlessly into your strands.
You say: “After recently dying my hair back to medium brown I was getting very tired of seeing my ugly dark blonde regrowth after 3 weeks and this product hides my regrowth so well! Sometimes I will just use this product to elongate my regrowth appointments at the hair salon! It is very easy to use and dispenses easily from the bottle and the added bonus is that it does not leave any greasy residue in your hair. It matched my regrowth perfectly and not one person from my workplace could tell I was using it! The smell of the product is not obvious at all either! I take it everywhere with me – I love it! Also loved the consistency of the product as it did not drip, or after a hot day, move further down my scalp. Will buy again!” – Cupcake811

Do you like the idea of touching up your roots? Have you tried using a root concealer before?
My problem is grey hair around the temples. I wonder if the Magic Retouch would work?
Yes magic retouch would work well
Don't need them, but I would never go out and get my photo taken with roots that bad!
I’ve never used any of these products, but then again I’ve never needed them. I colour my hair it’s natural colour to hide the greys.
I don't colour my hair so not an issue for me
I dont either but do sometimes have a few highlights, but have now notice some grey showing up amongst the blonde. I quite like it.
I realy dont worry about it too much but the magic retouch works ok for me.
Prefer my natural colour at the roots. Have noticed when I go overboard with my free-lights at some parts and tone them with potent purple shampoo….this part goes so silvery bluish translucent…almost looks as if I've got grey streaks! So used this darker concealing thing to darken my roots (from some overlighted highlights) until they grew out.
I have been using Clairol Nice & Easy Root Touch up for years. It's a no brainer. Just use the applicator brush wait to develop and your wash your hair as normal.
Currently loving the schwarzkopf mascara-wand one, It's been really great on a few wispy greys but I don't dye my hair so I'm keeping things simple.
When I used to Colour my hair I tried L'Oréal Paris Magic Retouch – Instant Root Concealer Spray it used to stain my pillow cases so I didn't like using it.
Now days I have embraced my Grey Hair haven't coloured it for sometime, but for those who don't have too many greys these products would be great to save money going to the Salon all the time.
I would try the 1000hr product if I do decided on trying something like this.
Good timing. About to dye my hair for the first time in ages with my RR order purchase!
Would love to try
Yes I have tried L’Oreal’s Magic Retouch and love it!!
I use henna so those products wouldn't suit
That would be annoying to get it on your pillow case.
Oh no on the pillow case. I hate that.
I’ve only seen the L’Oréal one.
I haven’t tried any of those but have used the Schwarzkopf hair mascara and am happy with that for my very few greys
Can't say I've tried any yet, but Magic Retouch would be on my list
From above I love the LOreal root spray. Quick and easy to use.
I don't colour my hair at the moment, loving the lack of maintenance that comes with it.
Never tried these products , little bit hesitant
Loreal all the way for me as I have been using this for a long time now.
I use the Magic Retouch but find it can be messy.
I like they are really convenient to use.
Never been a problem for me
I haven't tried any of these. I prefer to get it done at the hairdressers, I don't feel confident doing it myself!
really easy to use and would save $$$$ by reducing hairdressers appointments.
Great products and tips to try out!!!
I used to colour my hair when I was much younger and I really disliked the regrowth. I wish products such as these were available then.
My grey hair is very slowly starting to show from the roots on the side of my head. I actually don’t mind it.
some good options
Good to know, but I'd probably just head to the hairdresser to fix the problem.
I have tried the L'Oreal Magic Root but found it far too dark for my very light blonde hair.
I've reported jasonwong1 & melvinmartins686 as spam.
I love the John Frieda one
I have used the LOreal root spray and it was good but like the look of the John Frieda one and certainly could be a cheaper option
Handy
Yes, I use it , I have so many grey hair and the dye just doesn’t seem to last too long.
Do not use any, no grey hair, do like idea of them. One day will maybe need one
I don’t have a need for this yet but maybe when the grey hair starts coming through I might change my mind.
I have tried these products and they do work well and give you a couple of extra weeks before needing a new colour.
I am going away over christmas. My roots need it now but I want to wait a few weeks so that I don’t have too much regrowth while I’m away. I use the Magic Touch.
I had no idea that a touch up powder existed!
My mum uses them and she loves it
Schwarzkopf Root Retouch looks good. Must try.
L’Oréal Paris Magic Retouch is fantastic! I’m currently using that Schwarzkopf one & I want to try the Clairol version next. So far, L’Oréal would be my pick, but I’d repurchase Schwarzkopf on sale.
I’ve never tried these, but I rarely let my roots get too noticeable anyway!
Clairol nice and easy is lovely
I don’t use a root touch up product. My hairstyle hides most of the re-growth so I don’t worry about it.
I struggle to find a touch up product that matches my hair color.
i dont dye my hair yet, but i know in a few years time i will need to
Not sure about these as I really don’t like product buildup.
I don’t use these
