Between the Platinum Jubilee and the recent odes to Princess Diana herself in Netflix’s The Crown and the feature film Spencer, we can’t help but fall in love with the late Princess’s iconic aesthetic all over again. And now her nostalgic style is taking over our Instagram feeds yet again in the form of the ‘Princess Diana bob’.
It may be a classic ’80s hairstyle, but voluminous waves with a Farrah Fawcett flick have become synonymous with the late Lady of Wales and solidified her status as a style icon.
From the shaggy bob to Nicole Kidman’s effortlessly chic take, the bob hairstyle has proved that it never goes out of fashion. But there’s just something about Lady Di’s iconic hairstyle that we can’t get enough of.
Nor, it seems, can the beauty world. Princess Di’s iconic ‘do has been making the rounds on stylists’ Instagram feeds and even taken over the world of TikTok.
And let’s be real, what’s not to love?! The Diana bob is such a timeless style that can be styled with that voluminous swept-back look, or tousled and tucked behind the ears for a more laidback vibe.
One TikTokker, @keseyhellenbrand, has taken to the platform with a tutorial on the Princess Diana blowout — and if we weren’t already sold on this trend, we definitely are now.
And just in case you needed more convincing, we’ve gone ahead and sourced some of our favourite takes for inspo at your next hair appointment.
Modern elegance
Emma Corrin, the actress who embodied Lady Diana in The Crown, is the poster child for the modern Diana cut.
Shaggy style
This take on Princess Di’s iconic feathered shag also taps into the current grunge trend, adding a more elevated vibe to your look.
’70s nostalgia
Did someone say ’70s?! This flicked style is perfect for those with shoulder-length locks, with a layered face-framing fringe.
Diana meets old Hollywood
We’re simply obsessed with this exaggerated flick, and it’s so easy to recreate at home with a straightener, a good texturising spray to hold the flick in place, and chin-length locks, of course!
The pixie
Kristen Stewart has well and truly mastered the pixie cut, and what’s not to love?! The lead actress of Spencer showcases the perfect example of a grunge-meets-royalty iteration of the Princess Diana bob.
Which of these Princess Diana hairstyles is your favourite?
I’m sorry but the pixie cut looks as though it needs to be finished – just my thoughts.
I spent most of my twenties rocking a pixie cut! I love that it’s generally low maintenance!
I really like this messed up look.
I’m not convinced any of these examples look anything like Princess Diana’s hair!
This is what I thought too.
I thought so too.. none of them were nice
I agree. Diana’s hairstyle was so pretty on her.
Love the 70s flick!
The Diana meets old Hollywood is my favourite but I doubt I could pull that off
I love that look too! Very elegant!
I really never liked that style but I don’t like saying that because she was a nice lady
She most likely wouldn’t have minded CCW!
The word style means effort. I’m very lazy when it comes to my hair, wash and go is all I do.
Me too, but my excuse is that my hair is very fine and straight and doesn’t any style very well.
Not a fan. Does require also lots of styling, daily.
I agree with Chicklet….I dont think that they look like Di’s hair at all. They are all just short cuts.
They are similar but more modern versions of Diana’s styles, if you like short hair then they are all good.
It probably wouldn’t suit me
Love the 70’s and shaggy style!
Short hair though, definitely not for me.
Me too! The 70s styles rock!
I don’t get the resemblance to Diana’s hair at all. To me they’re all just different hair styles.
Absolutely love Princess Diana’s Bob hairstyle, hoping that my hair will grow back so I can get a Bob hairstyle once again.
Ooh yes the flick, just like Farrah Fawcett!
I had one of those in Year 10 around about 1983 – my gosh that sounds ancient!
The modern versions of the Princess Di are a lot less layered. I know because I had a cut just like hers at age 16 (groan!)
Agree! She had a very 80s/early 90s hairstyle!
Not sure they look like her hair style.
Short hair does nothing for me, but these styles look nice on some.
She had nice hair styles, but none of the options looked like her styles
Really? I think some hair styles definitely need to be left in the past. Never a fan of all that flicked back look!
I think they run out of ideas so re look at old styles but I agree some are best left behind
I like the pixie cut
Hairstyles rotate through the years
I have never really liked this haircut, and I’m not wild about most of these variations.
I agree
No I don’t think this was a flattering haircut. Much preferred her style before her untimely passing.
I so wanted ‘Lady Diana’ hair when I was a kid
I love when old styles come back into fashion. I thought Diana’s hairstyle really suited her.
Not a fan only because it requires too much styling on my hair. But think it looks nice otherwise.
They look more like the old Farah Fawcett styles other than the pixie. None of these wow me though
Adore Kristen’s look- she has such gamine features!
I don’t think Diana’s style will suit me.
My hair looks like the Diana one but worse when I’m growing my hair out.
Even though she had some lovely alternatives for her hair, none of them looked quite like her styles. word hurdle
Not a style for me, unfortunately
It’s a bit of a stretch to say that it’s Diana’s hair. I know the 80’s are in vogue but these are still a bit more modern
These are not much similar to Diana’s hair. But i like 70s nostalgia.
The Diana had an awesome hair style at that time every women love to have copy her style and fashion she was really an iconic person..
Some are cute but the shorter dos (especially shaggy and pixie) aren’t my faves
I don’t think that these cuts look anything like Diana’s hair.
Even though she had some lovely alternatives for her hair, none of them looked quite like her styles. Phạm Tuấn
