Hair colour isn’t the first thing you think of when you hear peanut butter and jam. But that’s the hair colour currently trending on Instagram. Surprisingly, it didn’t make our most popular hair colour predictions list for 2017.
Hair stylist Megan Schipani coined the term after giving a client berry-purple hair and caramel balayage highlights.

Megan spoke to Allure about creating the colour.
“She couldn’t have full-blown rainbow hair but was open to playing with deep reds and purples,” Megan told Allure. “She gave me complete creative control and that made my brain go crazy.”

To achieve the look, Megan gave her client’s pre-lightened hair a deep purple base, before alternating between berry and maroon on the other sections of her hair.
According to Megan, if you’re interested in the colour and have dark locks, you may need to get your hair lightened first so that all the shades will show up.
“I do think that the purple and maroon appear brighter on hair that has been pre-lightened so as long as you are willing to do that, then you can definitely have PB and J hair,” she said.
If you’re hesitant about taking the peanut butter and jam plunge, you could try purple highlights for a similar style. If you’re about to run to the salon demanding some kind of peanut butter and jam combination, check out the following inspo photos first!
