Nicole Kidman isn’t afraid to alter her appearance for a movie (after all, we barely recognised her in The Hours) and her latest role is no exception, swapping her usually long mane of strawberry blonde for a pixie cut.
The actress shared a behind-the-scenes snap from the set of Roar, giving us a peek at her short, chic hair quiff, while standing underneath a glorious rainbow.
Though it’s only a side profile shot, we have to say, the pixie cut really suits the 54-year-old.
And although some fans in the comments are leaning towards the probability of it being a wig, it wouldn’t be the first time Nicole cut her hair short for a role. She once chopped her lengths for an even shorter pixie style when starring in 2004’s Birth.
The haircut itself is very on trend, with Cosmetify reporting ‘The New Pixie’ as one of the top five hairstyles with the biggest search increases in 2021. The ‘new’ of it all seems to be an even shorter crop style, with less volume at the top and more sleekly styled.
Some of our favourite inspo? Charlize Theron’s platinum pixie circa late 2019 and Zoe Kravitz’s 2018 Golden Globes moment.
Styling the cut seems easy enough; simply brush forward or to the side while damp, blow-drying in the direction desired.
We like a boar bristle brush (try Rock & Ruddle Boar Bristle Feathered Friends Brush, $64.95 at David Jones) for a smooth finish and the StayX Hair Perfecting Wand ($23.99 at stayx.co) is the perfect handbag partner for taming any misbehaving kinks or flyaways throughout the day.

What do you think of Nicole’s pixie cut? Have you ever tried the style yourself?
That is some boss babe hairstyle, i don’t think everyone can pull off this hairstyle
Not a style I could pull off myself, but looks great on others
I think my hair is too thick to have a pixie cut
A hairdresser told me years ago a pixie style would suit me as I’m quite petite and have a small face. Have never been game enough to try it. My hair is long and straight.
Not sure about the Pixie cut at the moment I would very much like to grow my hair back to a shoulder length Bob.
I think longer hair suits Nicole.
