The most famous hairstyles of all time

Famous hairstyles you see on musicians, political figures, royalty and any other kind of celebrity can often inform your own hairstyle choices – whether you like it or not. We’re guessing that if all your girlfriends had ‘The Rachel’ in the 90s, you probably had it too (even if you hated Friends). Or maybe you’re still trying to perfect Marilyn Monroe’s undone curls or Cher’s long sleek locks. Whatever it is, we feel you. Some hairstyles are so iconic that you just have to give them a go for yourself.

We’ve gathered up some of the most famous hairstyles of all time. Click through the gallery below to see the hairstyles – and who’s responsible for making them iconic…

Cher hair

Long and sleek, Cher’s hair became famous on its own. And the XXL lock look has come back recently with Kim Kardashian and Rihanna rocking the style.

The ‘Rachel’

Jennifer Aniston’s fashionable Friends character, Rachel Greene, had an extremely layered bob that was HUGE in the 90s. Was there a woman who didn’t ask their hairstylist for ‘the Rachel’? We doubt it.

The beehive

In the 1960s, the beehive was THE hairstyle to have. And thanks to Amy Winehouse and Adele, there was a resurgence of the glam look in the 2010s.

The bouffant

Jackie Kennedy Onassis is widely known to be the woman responsible for the popularity of the bouffant hairstyle in the 60s.

The Marcia middle part

Marcia Brady (aka the eldest daughter on The Brady Bunch) is well-remembered thanks to her lush centre-parted locks.

The Posh bob

When we think of Posh Spice, the first thing that comes to mind is Victoria Beckham’ signature short and angled bob.

Shirley Temple ringlets

We still think those tightly coiled curls that are synonymous with Shirley Temple are the CUTEST!

Farrah Fawcett’s feathered ‘do

Farrah’s famed feathered ‘do was a 70s classic.

Marilyn Monroe curls

Marilyn Monroe’s blonde, dishevelled curls were incredibly iconic – just like the rest of her features.

The pixie cut

Actress and activist Mia Farrow is not only associated with the pixie cut but according to her, she created it back in the 60s!

Old Hollywood waves

Actress Veronica Lake’s iconic peek-a-boo hairstyle screams old Hollywood glamour.

Meg Ryan’s shaggy bob

Meg Ryan’s shaggy, layered bob was big in the 90s but with the likes of Alexa Chung and Dakota Johnson sporting a modern twist on the style, we think it’s on its way back!

Space buns

Carrie Fisher kicked off this trend when she starred as the space-bun-sporting Princess Leia in Star Wars. The double-bun look has since trended thanks to pop stars like Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry.

Dolly Parton’s big hair

Dolly Parton’s famous hairstyle was VOLUME. And it’s still iconic.

The flat top

Grace Jones’ signature flat-top hairstyle was created using a men’s razor.

Anna Wintour’s blunt bob

Vogue editor and Condé Nast artistic director Anna Wintour has a look she likes and she bloody sticks to it. The Dame has paired her blunt bob and fringe with oversized sunnies for as long as we can remember.

Have you had any of these iconic hairstyles in the past? Which is your favourite?

  1. Many hairstyles need experienced skills. Well, wigs are also important. If you want a special hairstyle, you can consider shopping for wigs, cause wigs are easy to deal with.
Here I recommend an online wigs and clothing store–https://www.jurllyshe.com/wigs-collection.html, here you can choose whatever suitable wigs you like, and the price is not high.
