Easy hairstyles for long straight hair

Back when I had waist-length hair, I’d rock long straight hairstyles on the daily. But as the months went by and my hair continued to grow, I found that I became less and less adventurous with it – even though I had ample length and thickness to play with. Doing hairstyles for long straight hair just seemed either too difficult and fiddly or too boring. But now that my hair is shorter, I’m kicking myself for not taking advantage of my long hair!

So if you’ve got long hair, why not shake things up and try out one of these hairstyles for straight hair? They’re all easy to create, super low maintenance to wear and anything but boring. So the next time you find yourself in yet another straight hairstyles rut, try one of these quick looks to mix it up…

Slick it back

A tried-and-true classic, the slick pony is more than just a sophisticated way to wear your hair up – it’s also the ultimate way to show off your hair length! Use a hair oil to keep renegade strands in place and wrap a small section of hair around the hair elastic for the ultimate chic style.

Add a braid

Don’t have a heap of time but want to jazz things up a little? When in doubt, add a braid. Whether it’s a waterfall braid, a fishtail braid or even just a simple plait, a little braid goes a long way in making it look like you put in more effort than you did. Add a braid or plait at the crown, down the side of your head or anywhere you like! Mist in some sea salt spray to get that sexy, undone texture and add a low bun if you really want to channel that boho vibe. After all, you’ve got lots of hair to work with, so go for it!

XXL messy top knot

Sometimes, when you just can’t be bothered, all you want to do is gather all your hair and just throw it up – that’s where the supersized messy top knot comes in. Don’t put a lot of thought into it (this is one style that definitely looks better undone and uncontrived), just scrape it all up, pile it high on your head into a ponytail. Loop the ends loosely around the ponytail and secure near the elastic. Pull out random strands in the front for extra cool-girl points and keep the style in place with a light layer of hairspray. Done!
