Katy Perry VMAs 2024

Katy Perry was honoured at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award yesterday, and the pop star’s red carpet look for the special occasion did not disappoint.

The 39 year old showed off her athletic physique in a white distressed denim set that bared her midriff, and head to toe, glossy, wet-look glam.

Katy’s glam team slathered her in shimmering body oil, selected a palette of frosted eye shadows for her lids, and created a ‘fresh from the ocean’ head of wet-look waves.

Wet-look hairstyles are notoriously difficult to get right, which is why we were elated when Katy’s hair stylist, Jesus Guerrero dished on the exact steps and products he used to create the star’s glossy strands.

The exact products used to create Katy Perry’s wet-look VMAs hair

Jesus prepped Katy’s hair with Goldwell StyleSign Everyday Blow-Dry Spray ($21.95 from Catch) and the Goldwell StyleSign Weightless Shine-Oil ($27.10 from Kogan). He focused the product on the ends of her hair, to protect it from heat prior to styling.

Then he used a hairdryer and medium ceramic round nylon brush to blow out and smooth Katy’s hair.

After the hair was blown out and smooth, Jesus sprayed the Goldwell StyleSign Shine Spray ($21.95 from Kogan) on Katy’s strands to add shine and minimise frizz.

Then, he used a one-inch flat iron on the roots to smooth and flatten the hairline where it was short and wavy, and a one-inch curler to create alternating curls and to give the hair more of a natural vibe.

After he finished curling, Jesus applied the Goldwell StyleSign Defining Cream ($21.95 from Kogan) to Katy’s roots and the Goldwell StyleSign Weightless Shine-Oil ($27.10 from Kogan) to the mid-length and ends to give the hair a wet look.

To finish, the hair stylist sprayed a combination of the Goldwell StyleSign Shine Spray ($21.95 from Kogan) and Goldwell StyleSign Extra Strong Hairspray ($34.95 from Oz Hair & Beauty) to secure the hair all over (but especially to keep the front pieces in place). The combination of these two products helped to combat humidity and also ensured that the hair style maintained a natural finish all night long.
