How Jennifer Aniston Really Feels About ‘The Rachel’

It’s hard to come by a beauty interview with Jennifer Aniston that doesn’t mention ‘The Rachel’. And yet, despite the haircut being such a ’90s phenomenon, it was really only featured in its purest form during one season Friends.

So, considering it didn’t hang around for long, what did Jen really think of it?

Well, we now have the answer thanks to Adam Sandler.

Did Jennifer Aniston like ‘The Rachel’?

It’s important to note that ‘The Rachel’ reached peak popularity around 1995. So that’s 28 years that Jen has been answering questions about her hair and that particular cut. She’s even capitalised on it by launching her own hair brand, Lolavie.

So trust funny man Adam Sandler to ask about it when she addressed him with, “What’s something you’ve always wanted to ask me?” during an interview with ET.

“‘The Rachel’, I know no one talks to you about that,” he joked. “I just wanna know, when you saw it in the mirror for the first time, did you say ‘this is it, this is the one I wanted, this is fantastic’?”

To which Jen responded, “I really did enjoy it when it first happened. Which we interpret as: “But I don’t enjoy it now”.

“When did you say I can’t do ‘The Rachel’ anymore?” he followed up.

“I just started growing it out,” Jen responded. “It was too hard because I couldn’t do it on my own. And I just looked like Roseanne Roseannadanna.”

In case you didn’t know, Jen’s natural hair is quite curly when left to air-dry. So you can imagine the havoc those layers would wreak before she had a hairstylist on speed dial.

It’s a lesson we’ve all probably learned the hard way; don’t commit to a cut if you’re going to hate the upkeep.

  1. It shaped her face really well. I’m not sure if I could ever pull that off. You’d need the right face shape and a really talented hairdresser who really knows how to create the perfect layers to suit.

  2. No I never tried this hair cut or style. I once got a fringe and immediately regretted it and couldn’t wait for it to grow out and I remember using bobby pins to clip it back until it did grow out.

  3. It must be annoying for her when there are so many other things she’d probably want to talk about. It looked great for the time (and probably would now too) but if it’s too much work then it’s gotta go!

    • My daughter has the most beautiful hair. Curly and blonde. But she likes to straighten it all the time and complains when it is humid because it curls more and more.

  4. I once had a blunt fringe & chest-length hair ala Lily Allen from the video clip for her song “The Fear”. Even took a screenshot of that into the salon to show the hairdresser what I wanted (was the first & only time she gave me the exact cut etc I wanted).

Would never get a blunt fringe again because of the upkeep, but don’t mind having the curtain fringe I have now. Would also never get a perm again, nor do a keratin straightening treatment. Neither work on my hair due to its porosity & possibly some other factors. It’s hard enough getting my hair to hold ANY style, let alone anything semi-permanent.
