Outside of time travel and gaining unsupervised access to MECCA after hours, spending a day inside the mind of Jen Atkin would be high on our wishlist.
To begin, we’d delve deep into her mental archives to uncover the secrets of some of her biggest celebrity clients like Kim Kardashian, Cindy Crawford and Chrissy Teigen.
Then, we’d move straight toward the frontal lobe and absorb everything she knows about how to cut, style and colour hair so goddamn brilliantly.
But look, although it’s a fun adventure to imagine, it’s downright impossible. Luckily, Jen has gone ahead and spilled all her secrets anyway. Hair-related ones that is.
Joining the troop of big names who have shared insight into their success (Kris Jenner, Anna Wintour and Bobbi Brown to name a few), Jen Atkin has officially launched her ‘Style Your Own Hair For Any Occasion” on MasterClass.
What can we expect from Jen Atkin’s MasterClass?
As part of a MasterClass membership you’ll have access to Jen’s complete course which covers everything from how to style specific hair types to building a tool kit to mastering an updo.
The near four hour course isn’t only suited for budding hairstylists but also for those at home who just want to elevate their every day haircare routine.
If you’re still deciding whether you’re going to commit to the $23 a month subscription, here’s are the kinds of tips you can expect to learn from Jen along the way.
“I’m going to tell everyone a really big trick,” Jen reveals during her course, as shared by The Hollywood Reporter. “Don’t waste your time so much on the hair at the nape of your neck because no one’s really going to see it.”
Oh okay. Don’t mind us, just reflecting on all the precious time we’ve lost doing exactly that.
And when it comes to nailing your styling? “You want to stick to the sections that are the second and third section in the back. Because if you get that too curly, too big, your hair’s going to end up really really wide, if you want that look, then go for it.”
Second and third at the back, noted.
What haircare products does Jen recommend in her course?
Among her pearls of wisdom are Jen’s recommended products. Unsurprisingly the stylist regularly uses products from her own line, Ouai. And unsurprisingly, these haircare products are actually incredible. In particular we love the Super Dry Shampoo ($40, Sephora).
However, it’s not just her own line she’s spruiking. Jen also recommends Tracee Ellis Ross‘ Pattern Beauty. We’ve got money on it that Jen’s a fan of the curl conscious hair dryer.

What do you think of Jen’s MasterClass? Are you interested in watching?
I am interested in her MasterClass but wouldn’t pay for it.
What I meant was I’m not interested enough to pay for a subscription
Yeah, I don’t think I’d pay for a subscription either
I feel the same -an ongoing subscription could get expensive
Sounds interesting but I am so low maintenance when it comes to my hair
I would be interested in watching too.
I would prefer getting a one off guide to styling etc on a one to one basis with a good stylist
Ouai is expensive. I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about how good any of the products are.
It sounds nice but I’m not interested in any paid subscriptions
Me too, not at the moment anyway.
It sounds interesting, not sure if I will watch it.
I’ve not heard or seen her brand Ouai before.
I’m too lazy with my hair to get value out of a subscription
I would be interested if it was a one off but not as an ongoing subscription
No, I like my hair as is. Just hanging in there lol
Never heard of her.
I hate monthly subscriptions.
$23 per month = $276 for 12 months.
Per month doesn’t sound too bad but when you add it up for a year its a different matter.
It sounds great and would be very helpful.
It’s not something that interests me.
Sounds interesting, but I’m way too low maintenance on the hair styling front to bother with a subscription.
Sounds useful if you want her styling tips.
a good hairdresser could give you advice just for you which would be more helpful and cheaper
Sounds interesting but not for me
