How-to: heat-free curls

I’m a huge fan of wavy hair because my hair really lacks volume and I love big hair. The problem is, my hair is getting damaged every time I decide to curl it, which can be quite frequently – especially at this time of year. To help prevent damage, I’ve been occasionally trying heat-free curls, and today I’ll be showing you how to create wavy hair without the heat.

What I used in this tutorial is three bobby pins and three small hair ties. You can substitute this with whatever you have in your bathroom.

Step one: I start off by washing my hair and semi-drying it so that it’s damp. If you don’t want to wash your hair, you can just spray it with water.

Step two: Separate your hair into two parts (top and bottom), then take the upper half and start twisting all of the hair until it turns into a twirled bun.

Step three: Once you have it into a bun, use a hair tie to secure your bun. I also used a bobby pin to pin it down so that it doesn’t move around.

Step four: Now take the lower section of your hair and separate it into two sections. Repeat steps two and three until you have three buns on your head.

Step five: Wait for a minimum of 3-4 hours. You can even add some hair accessories and go out with it while you wait.

Tip: If you are planning on sleeping with it overnight, do your twisted bun higher up so that it doesn’t get in the way. Make sure your hair isn’t too damp, as it won’t dry properly overnight.

Step six: remove your hair elastics and give it a good shake with your fingers. Add some hairspray to help maintain the curls all day.
