How to create 3 different types of curls

Unless you’re an avid heat styler, knowing how to create the curls you want can be tricky business. There are so many different variations, and unless you’ve tried and tested all the tools that create them, there’s no way of knowing which ones you like best.

That is, until we tested them for you.

So to show you just how varied they can get, I’ve used three different hair tools to create three different looks. Click on each image below to see my ‘before’ and ‘after’, and again to see which tool I used to create each type of curl. See if you can guess which tool I used before the final reveal!

“I really like this look – A LOT, though it’s not something I’d go for on a daily basis. I think this is something I would keep for special occasions as it’s quite a glamorous style. I love how these curls bring out my highlights and soften my features. It’s a really pretty, really classic and feminine curl, but I can also imagine myself popping on a red lippie for something a little sexier. While I think it makes my hair look ten thousand times healthier, my only gripe is that I looove running my fingers through my hair, scrunching it and tszujing at the roots, but these curls look like they’d drop pretty quickly if I touched them too much.”

“Honey, I’m home! Naturally textured but still stylish, this is a look I could wear every day. It’s big and bouncy, just the way I like it! I love how much volume I get with this tool – not to mention how simple it is to use. I also love how versatile this look is – I wear it to work, out to lunch, to formal functions – I’d even wear my hair like this on my wedding day!”

“This tool took me a few goes at first, but once I got the hang of things, I found it easier to use than I’d first anticipated. I’ve seen bh’s Sam use this tool before, so I was a little surprised when my curls came out the way they did. They’ve got a much beachier vibe than hers – a pleasant surprise! It’s a really good look for summer. My only gripe is that my curls didn’t last as long this time around. I have naturally quite straight, limp hair that can be really stubborn when it comes to styling, so while I don’t think this is the tool for me, I think this would be much more suitable for someone with hair that takes to curls quite easily.”
