You may remember I pledged to have a new ‘do in the New Year? It’s now almost April, yet I’m still sporting the ol’ bangs, so I’ve decided to take action and do everything humanly possible to curb the desire to get them chopped. (This goes as far as sitting on my hands so I can’t pick up a phone to book a quick trim.)
But I ask you this: have you ever seen anyone grow out a fringe in style? Me neither. So I put in a call in to the experts and got them to solve my plight. Here are their top tips for stylishly slicking back your bangs…
Joh Bailey, guru that he is, says, “the golden rule is to pin it back; either straight back or to the side. Then, once it’s long enough to pin to the side, you can hide it with the longer hair.”
Oscar Cullinan, of boutique salons Oscar Oscar, also shared his insider advice. Although, admittedly, his first tip was not music to my ears: “be patient; your hair only grows just over 1cm a month.” Clearly he’s never met an Aries before. Luckily his other words of wisdom were more up my street: “try styling your hair into a quiff or intertwine your fringe into a side braid.” A la Scarlett Johansson and Lauren Conrad: that Oscar, I can do.
He was also keen to point out that most salons offer you free fringe trims that still apply as you’re growing it out – this will ensure that your fringe is still being blended into the rest of your haircut. As Bailey says, “slowly you can create a side fringe that then becomes front layers until the fringe is completely grown out.”
Both men agreed that “the easiest way to hide a fringe is to invest in some great headbands or clips” just like Diane Kruger – my new style icon.
Thanks guys!
What hairstyle have you been in a hurry to get rid of? And what did you do?
