Gisele Bündchen’s Hairstylist Reveals The Secret To Her Signature Beach Waves

Gisele Bündchen’s hair has to be one of the best manes in Hollywood. Seriously, if we could wake up with anything close to her sun-kissed colour and stunning beach waves, we’d be pretty close to walking the runway ourselves.

But while such a miracle may not happen, we do have the next best thing: the help of Gisele’s hairstylist and Goldwell & KMS Brand Ambassador, Harry Josh. Harry is the very man responsible for first creating Gisele’s ombre ends and textured movement — a look that defined the noughties. And not one we regretted, either.

Having worked with the likes of Rose Byrne, Jennifer Garner, Gwyneth Paltrow, and more, it’s safe to say Harry knows what’s up when it comes to hair.

Here, he shares with beautyheaven the latest in colour trends, how to nail the ‘90s blowout, and of course, how we can get Gisele Bündchen’s hair at home.

The modern blonde is here to stay

We’ve had balayage, ombre and bronde, so what’s next in the world of highlights? If you ask Harry, these staples have now become so well established that we’ve entered “a new normal of different shades, tones and styles of colouring” that are all possible.

The modern blonde can achieve any tone or blend they desire — the key is simply knowing what to ask for, or collaborating with your hairdresser to find the perfect colour. Need some inspo? We’re head over heels for honey blonde right now.

Brunettes should embrace the dark side

For brunettes, consider skipping the need for highlights altogether. “Believe it or not dark brown hair is being shown all over the runways,” says Harry. “Models like Bella Hadid and Irina Shayk have all chosen to go back to the deeper, darker shades of brunette that they previously have had.”

Although considering we’re currently heading into summer in Australia, he also stipulates to do what works well for you. And perhaps save the darker colour for winter.

The key to a bombshell ’90s blowout

When Gisele Bündchen’s hair isn’t styled in beach waves, it’s probably going to be in a voluminous ’90s blowout.

Harry says his two staples for pulling off such a look are a great round brush (bh loves the Lady Jayne Salon Pro Angled Vent Brush, $22.99 at Chemist Warehouse) and a product like Goldwell’s StyleSign Ultra Glamour Whip ($22.50 at Oz Hair & Beauty) “to create volume and lift”.

“Getting that bouncy blowout is all about getting root lift everywhere while making sure that the ends around it are tucked under [to] give it that truly voluminous, early supermodel glamazon ’90s blow-dry.”

Ok, seriously, how do I get Gisele’s hair?

If you’re aiming to recreate beach waves similar to Gisele Bündchen’s hair, Harry’s got all the intel you need. Here are his top tips.

1. Hold the curling iron horizontally vs vertically’

“You’ll be able to create softer, more natural-looking texture versus a ’70s wave.”

2. Or try a flat iron

“Pull through the hair, rounding every few seconds for a lived-in beachy texture that is not too loopy or curly.”

3. Make sure the ends are straight

“Gisele’s haircut stands out on the ends which is a crucial reason why it looks so good on her.”

4. Use a product to help with hold

“I love using the Goldwell StyleSign Curls & Waves Soft Waver 2 Lightweight Wave Fluid ($22.50 at Oz Hair & Beauty). It has a lightweight cream formula to keep beautiful curls intact without weighing them down.”
