We were beginning to think we’d seen the last of the hair industry’s ‘first-of-its-kind’ launches. As far as heat tool technology goes, we’re already spoilt for choice. Think about it, we can bend our hair into any shape we want within a matter of seconds.
Whether you want to straighten, curl, wave, hot roll, or even smooth down flyaways, there are endless options that are only the click of a button or the flick of a wrist away.
There’s nothing else we could possibly want, right? Wrong! No matter who you are or what your hair type is, we all share the universal issue: a lack of bathroom storage.
By now you’d be across ghd’s newest launch which has promised to revolutionise the way we do our hair. But, we put those claims (backed by 21 years of engineering experience) to the test and reviewed the Duet Style ourselves.
Keep reading for all of our thoughts on whether the ghd Duet Style is living up to the hype…
What is the ghd Duet Style?
If you hadn’t already guessed from its name, the Duet Style is a 2-in-1 heat tool. It combines the benefits of a blow-dryer and a flat iron, taking hair from wet to styled.
How does the ghd Duet Style work?
Picture this: you’ve just towel dried your hair and you’re about to straighten it. However, instead of being met with that all too familiar sizzling noise, your hair is gently dried, styled, and then hit with a finishing shot of added shine.
If you can, pop your science and engineering cap on for a moment as we explain the breakthrough AIRFUSION™ technology behind the Duet Style. Using both convection and conduction, airflow and heated plates gently dry and style simultaneously.
Built with an acoustic sound system, enjoy a lower level of noise compared to a traditional hair dryer. Plus, the eco-friendly aerodynamics uses up to 45 per cent less energy.
My ghd Duet Style review…
The good…
Consider my savings account dedicated to a Dyson Airwrap officially closed for business. Not because I’ve finally managed to scrape the complete $899 together, but because instead, because that place in my heart (and brain) that yearned for the six-piece hair tool has officially been replaced. A classic ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ situation.
From getting out of the shower to having 100 per cent dry and styled hair, the ghd Duet Style worked its magic after just 12 minutes on the clock. However, let it be known that I have very fine hair, a blessing and a curse.
Instead of messing about with tangled cords and multiple tools, the ghd Duet Style is a one-stop-shop. And not in a half-arsed, “your hair needs to be 70 per cent dry before you use it” kind of way.
The most exciting part of all? The Duet Style requires essentially no skill or coordination.
Forget wrestling a round brush as you attempt to give yourself a sleek blowout. All you’ll be required to do is glide the Duet Style down a piece of sectioned, wet hair (just as you’d use your straightener) and allow it to dry and style simultaneously.
If you’re anything like us, once wet hair hits a heat tool, you’ll brace for the sound of sizzling. However, it looks like we’ll be saving the steam and sizzle for a delicious night out at the Korean barbeque because as far as the Duet Style is concerned, it is non-existent.
Now for the big finisher: the Shine Shot™. Don’t ask me how this works, just know that it does. Right before my eyes my near-perfect hair became glossier and glossier. And as I write this article over 24 hours later, has remained that way ever since.
The (not even) bad…
In fact, my only criticism (and i’m scraping the barrel here) was that my hair looked a little too sleek. I don’t mind a little bit of movement. However, this was nothing a couple of spritzes of sea salt spray couldn’t fix up.
Will I purchase the ghd Duet Style?
I can’t lie, it took me using the tool to actually understand how game-changing it truly was. Of course, from the moment it launched I understood its benefits, and coming from a brand like ghd, I knew it would be elite technology. However, for me personally? I didn’t think I’d be lusting after it (besides, I was fixated on that Airwrap, remember?).
Well, we’re not even two full months into 2023 and I’m going on record to say, I was wrong. Someone pass me $595 because I need this Duet Style.
For the health of my hair (goodbye thermal damage) but also for the health of my mind, body and soul.
After all, if I’m saving time in the morning by cutting my hair routine in half, I’ve got more time for physical exercise and wellness practices like meditation. In fact, I’m beginning to think this should be covered under Medicare, no?
FAQs
What steps in our hair care routine will the ghd Duet Style replace?
Once you’ve got your hands on the Duet Style, you can say goodbye to your hair dryer and flat iron. Unless you’ve mastered the beach wave or bouncy curl with your straightener (which is not hard to do with a little practice), you’ll want to hang onto your curling wand.
Otherwise, clear out those cluttered drawers and start embracing the simplicity of being a one-tool woman (or man).
Does it require a heat protector?
As with all ghd heat tools, the Duet Style won’t cause heat damage as it operates at the optimum styling temperature of 185°C.
However, to guarantee the best results, ghd has released Sleek Talker (RRP $60) in conjunction with the Duet Style. The heat-protecting styling oil works to further soften, smooth and replenish the hair.
When does it launch?
The ghd Duet Style launched on the 1st of February 2023. It’s available in Black or White from ghd.
How much does it cost?
The Duet Style retails for $595.
When you combine the price of the brand’s hair dryer and straightener, $595 works out to equal around the same cost of both tools.
Is the ghd Duet Style the same as a hot brush?
No! Not the same.
However, we can understand why you might think that.
A common misconception about hot brush tools is that they have the capability to take your hair from wet to dry. Before using a hot brush (and this goes for any brand) hair must be at least 80 per cent dry. The Duet Style only requires hair to be towel dried before using.
What do you think of the ghd Duet Style? Do you want to try it?
I’d love to see a video of how it works as a hairdryer.
Yes, I’m intrigued by that as well as it doesn’t look hairdryer-ish at all
same! really interesting.
I think heat comes out as you are using it.
It sounds interesting, I would like to try it.
This sounds great, I rarely spend time doing my hair and if I can combine to jobs into one – amazing!
I would love to give it a try, sounds wonderful.
I love this! Perfect for someone that blow dries and straightens hair but I’ll be putting this off for a while sadly…
🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️oh yes! Where have you been my whole life… trial team pleaseeeeeee 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
Stop it 😲 need this!
I thought I wanted something like this a long time ago but now realise it really is not necessity and there are inexpensive workarounds.
So true
Very interesting!
$599 💸💸
good response LOL
Expensive!
I rarely heat style & always air dry my hair. I’d never spend that much – even if I would use it.
I air dry my hair as well.
Great waiting for moderation again.
So the hairdresser in me gets very excited when it come to new styling tools and would love to have a play! I would love to see if it still can provide a sleek finish on curly hair?
Just what I need, but a little too pricey for my liking.
These new products sure are dear
I think it’s because it is a Dyson.
Actually it’s a Ghd.
I don’t want/need this
Looks absolutely beautiful and unfortunately it’s way too expensive for me.
Looks good to me although I think I need a slimmer version for my short hair.
oh wow, interesting gadget!
ghd comes up with another one
Sounds like these wet to dry ones are making a come back
I would love to try this.
Yes please! Would love to see it in action
so would I -It does look interesting
I’d certainly consider it next time I need one of these tools… but hopefully mine will last a bit longer.
Expensive!
I would love one but a bit too pricey for me unfortunately ☹️
It looks quite heavy.. this would kill my hands because my curly hair takes forever to straighten
It does look heavy!
this is cool but i dont think anyone wants to spend 600 in these days
I used to really revere straight long hair but now really love having long natural waves so don’t see myself really needing or reaching for these type of tools. I also think the maintenance of looking after my hair with heat protectant products is a bit burdensome for me. I like to spend as little time as possible getting ready.
Not really fussed on the GHD Duet it also depends on how wet your hair tends to stay, for me I would still need a Hairdryer before the Hair Straightener, so I will stick to that also very expensive.
It looks really nice!
It sounds interesting, but it’s out of my price range, so I will pass, thank you.
out of mine too but looks great
This is my kind of hair care, I’m as lazy as they come when it comes to styling/drying my hair
Ruby, your hair looks stunning! 😍
Definitely want to try it on my unruly hair.
wow I would love to try it
Way out of my price range but it certainly sounds wonderful.
The tool sounds great. But very expensive!
Mmm my thoughts too!
Yes indeed I want to try it!
ghd seems to always have a new model out
Sounds like a great product
An all in one product!
good tips regarding wet to dry
exxy! Want it lol
Well done, Ruby – I can’t believe you weren’t gifted one by GHD.
That sounds really cool. I wonder how well it would work on thick hair though.
This sounds Wow! but my wallet is crying 🙁
Wow that is super expensive but I really enjoyed the video – very helpful and your hair does look lovely.
Not needing any skill or coordination makes it sound very attractive to me!
Looks good but a bit expensive
It looks so chunky
Hair is the most important part for the human specially for the women as they are always trying to have smooth and long hair for this they used different products ! I would also suggest for hair loss treatment to go for FUE hair restoration in Islamabad for better hair recovering .
