Expert tips on how to tame fuzzy hair

Picture this scenario: you’ve just washed your hair and it’s time to style it. You spend the time blowdrying it, ensuring each piece is sleek and smooth. Then you go over your locks with a hair straightener, just to be sure that it’s all groomed. It looks excellent. Perfect, even. But then, you walk outside and suddenly your glossy, shiny hair is a frizzy, fuzzy mess.

It’s enough to put you in a bad mood for the rest of the day. But luckily there is hope, and La Biosthetique senior educator Alexander Fuchs has some words of advice to keep that annoying fuzz at bay.

He says: “The main cause for [frizzy hair] is unbalanced moisture levels in the hair that becomes more noticeable when the environmental conditions change.
“A lot of people also make the problem worse with improper care or inappropriate chemical treatments that have dehydrated or stressed the hair. Also excessive blowdrying and hair straightening doesn’t help the problem even if it sometimes looks like it’s the only way to control the problem.”

But Alexander recommends that you can tackle frizz even before you’ve gotten to the blowdrying phase with quality haircare products that have the right ingredients to restore and protect the moisture balance in your hair and help control frizz. He suggests using the La Biosthetique’s Anti Frizz four-step care system which contains the aqua-style complex to soothe the unbalanced structure of the hair without weighing it down, reducing its elasticity or leaving it looking lifeless.

The range – which is made up of the Anti Frizz Shampoo, Anti Frizz Conditioner, Anti Frizz Styling Balm, and Anti Frizz Serum – all work together to control your hair to leave it feeling shiny and glossy. Hot tip: the Serum is small enough to keep in your bag, and because you can apply it to dry hair, you can use it as needed throughout the day to control frizz.

More styling tips from Alexander:
1) Don’t be rough with your hair during shampooing. Squeeze your hair gently rather than scrubbing your hair and scalp as this will tangle the hair.
2) When you step out of the shower, again you shouldn’t rub your hair with the towel, rather squeeze the moisture out of the hair with the towel.
3) Try to let your hair dry naturally with a styling balm in your hair, so you only have to smooth your hair out with your styling tools rather than drying your hair with strong heat and adding more stress on to your hair. If you shampoo your hair before going to bed, wrap your hair into a towel or use a silk pillowcase so your hair stays controlled over night.
4) If you are lover of hot styling tools such as tongues or irons, make sure you use a hair tool that you can adjust the temperature and keep it low.
5) When blowdrying frizzy hair, use a ceramic brush – the even heat distribution is much better for the hair.
6) Try to not play with your hair during the day too much. Unnecessary style changes or touching your hair will roughen up the outer layer of the hair again and open the hair to the humidity or moisture.
