As the pool of HIV infections in Australia continues to grow by approx 1000 people per year, and the rate amongst heterosexual women increases, awareness, support and prevention is now more important than ever. And seeing as it’s World AIDS Day today, there really is no better time to get behind the beauty brands that support the cause.
L’Oréal is just one of the brands doing its bit by producing a beautiful limited edition 2011 ‘Hairdressers Against AIDS’ calendar. The Hairdressers Against AIDS program is a unique, global education program raising AIDS awareness through regular education programs hosted by the L’Oréal Professional Products Division brands – L’Oréal Professionnel, Redken and Matrix.
This high fashion, special edition calendar marks an important milestone – the 10th anniversary of the L’Oréal Hairdressers Against AIDS initiative, and features images of 12 gorgeous women (such as Audrey Tatou, Diane Kruger, Doutzen Kroes, Monica Bellucci and Vanessa Paradis, just to name a few), all styled and shot by internationally acclaimed hairdresser and photographer, John Nollet. Click here for a sneak peek of what went on behind-the-scenes at the shoot…
Purchase your special edition calendar for $20 from various supporting salons from today – all proceeds will be donated to The Victoria AIDS Council. Click here to find your nearest participating salon.
Another beauty brand doing more than its fair share for HIV/AIDS is MAC. Since 1994 The MAC AIDS Fund has raised over USD $180 million through the sale of Viva Glam products to help men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS. Viva Glam Lipglass and Lipsticks can be purchased all year around, but for the holiday season MAC has released three exclusive gift items – a Viva Glam Tartan lip bag ($80.00); a Tartan Teddy ($48.00); and Kids Helping Kids Cards – greeting cards created by children affected by HIV/AIDS ($12.00).
In Australia, the proceeds of these products will go to several charities including the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation (NSW); the Sydney Children’s Hospital in support of Camp Goodtime (the national camp for children and families living with HIV); Victorian AIDS Council; Queensland Association of Healthy Communities; and the West Australian AIDS Council. Today, on World AIDS Day, MAC employees will also be volunteering at the organisations listed above.
So do your bit for the brands that support good causes beauties, and purchase on (or all!) of the limited edition buys mentioned!
