If you told us TV star/chef-extraordinaire Curtis Stone paid upwards of seven hundy for a good lobster banquet, look, we’d believe it in a second. In fact, we might even yell ‘steal!’.
His hair, however, we wouldn’t have necessarily guessed was allocated quite as much budget. Honestly, a haircut would want to be able to serve you a lobster banquet for that much dosh.
Not that it’s not a fabulous chop! Now that we think about it, it’s actually quite iconic. But for $700, it sure should be!
So does Stone stand by dropping $700 on a haircut? Or does said overspend top his ‘regrets’ list? Let’s find out…
Curtis Stone’s haircut evolution
So when (and um, why) did Stone confess to this hair-centric cash splash? On an episode of the Fitzy & Wippa With Kate Richie radio show, where he told hosts Fitzy and Richie that he’s developed a taste for a new Beverly Hills hair salon while living in LA.
“Hey, the quiff’s a bit long at the moment,” Fitzy observed during the chat, going on to quiz Stone about whether he was growing it out before making a big hair move. “What are you doing with your hair at the moment? [Are you] gonna get a ponytail at some stage or…?”, he asked.
“I was going for the man bun, but I don’t know if I’m gonna make it,” Stone responded, before admitting his wife wasn’t so keen on his previous spikier style. “My wife came to me and she said ‘you can’t have the same haircut your whole life; you’ve got to do something different’.”
And something different, he did! “That’s why I just play ball,” he told Richie, when she quipped that it sounded as if his wife was getting bored of his hair. “Whatever she throws my way, I do.”
“She booked me into her hairdresser in Beverly Hills,” Stone shared. “It took me five bloody hours in this place. I had a different person to colour it, a different person to make my coffee, a different person to brush it and shampoo, and then someone to cut it.” Living the lush life, it seems! All was well until he hit the cash register…
How Curtis Stone paid $700 for a haircut
“It was $700. I called her in the car on the way home and I’m like ‘what does it cost you to get your hair cut’? And then I stopped her – I said ‘don’t tell me I don’t want to know’.”
Wise move, man – the cost of a salon appointment should only whispered in darkened street corners. Well, unless you’re Stone, spilling the cost goss for us all to hear!
For a visual reference, here he is, at an event in Beverly Hills this year, potentially only streets away from the scene of the cash-splashing crime…
Fitzy, for one, was outraged by the indulgent price. “Haven’t you changed?” he joked. “Your mates growing up, if they find out you’ve had a $700 haircut, you’re gone, son.”
“American dollars!”, Richie clarified, adding insult to injury. For the record (and you might want to take some deep breaths before reading this), with the current exchange rate, $700 USD is the equivalent of about $1015 Aussie dollars. We’re at a loss for words…
Stone isn’t claiming that’s reasonable, though! “I didn’t understand the word ‘ashamed’ like I do now, before that happened to me,” he admitted.
Look, we’re sure it was a snazzy chop (and there may have been some colour thrown in), but we hope for Stone’s wallet’s sake (and hell, for his Aussie relatability rep) that he finds a more bargain-savvy barber shop in the future.

How much would be your haircut spend limit? Do you think $1000 is a ridiculous amount to spend, even in Beverly Hills?
Wow,that’s not for everyone.
They must be laughing all the way to the bank!
Greedy too !!
That’s one happy hairdresser! Oh and his hair does look nice too.
He has a lovely face and good hair .
Yes very good hair : )
He does have good hair but $700 sure is pricey
wow, and that is a mans cut!!
Mens hair cuts are usually less than womens. I sometimes do wonder why.
Geez, how much would they charge for woman’s hair cut
Especially if a woman had long hair, it’s ridiculous.
Bank loan!
It would really put someone on the spot to be charged so much after the visit. It’s a cautionary tale to ask about pricing beforehand.
True but in that area so many must be seen people they probably like to show they go to ” The Best”
USD! That is stupid.
Totally
Obviously, he and his wife have more money than sense.
Maybe, but he can cook?? I do like him on the Coles ads.
Over the top for sure.
I don’t think it is worth for $700.
Unbelievable, bet he won’t return there next time he needs a haircut
No it sounds like he realised it was a ridiculous price.
That is a lot of money for a haircut. Especially a men’s cut
That’s years worth of hair cuts.
Easily !!!
Yes X10!
How much would be your haircut spend limit? Do you think $1000 is a ridiculous amount to spend, even in Beverly Hills? Yes it is ridiculour, I do wonder what could ever justify an amount like this to be spent on having a hair cut.
He did have a colour too but still over the top.
Yeah it wasn’t just a cut, but I agree it’s still too much
I’d never pay that to get my hair done.
He is one good looking dude but more money than brains in this situation.
I cannot imagine paying that for any haircut ever.
My Mum used to say only two weeks between a good or a bad haircut.
Uh yeah that’s ridiculous lol
I mean, I’m sure they have the means. However, $700 is ridiculous.
It is ridiculous but they have so many staff to pay, as Curtis said, their is a colourist, then someone who will cut your hair and another to style it.
Their rent would be over the top in this area too but they are charging like a wounded bull!!
I’m stating the obvious, but his wife has expensive taste.
She has good taste in men too.
Should I be ashamed to admit that I cut & colour my own? I think $1000 is ridiculous!
I wish I could do that! You never cease to amaze me M8!
I would have to ask to view the price list and see their reviews before I even sit in a chair. Also there are so many things such as whether he got a glass of champagne too!
I cringe at $60 for a trim let alone $1000 aus dollars.
That is just ridiculous!
That is a bit steep!
The most I’ve paid for just a cut is $85. Never again though.
I give zero bucks. Done couple of times, hairdressers never got it right. Now I cut myself, looks great.
testing
lol Yoh! 😀
It clearly was NOT just for a Haircut. It was coloured; washed; blowdried; etc and it is in Beverly Hills and it probably included taxes and tips. Outrageous price
That is such a lot of money to spend on a haircut.
He looks like genetically he has a good head of hair
Oh my goodness.
I wouldn’t sleep with guilt thats a a few weeks of groceries!
not just a haircut though, but no way. On his length hair? Thats ridiculoua and I probably wouldnt be going on national radio talking about it because his wife’s hair would probably have been double. Yeah, not something I’d be sharing.
That is insanely a lot of money, i have a mortgage to pay for lol. $250 is probably the most I’ve paid for my hair
That’s outrageous! Obviously when he stopped to think about it, he did think US$700 was too much to pay for a haircut.
Cut and colour! I was going to say that is a steep price for just a cut. I should have been half of that or even a third but what does he expect in Beverly Hills?
He looks good.
It’s too many ! but a celebrity can beard such amount only for the hair cut..
What a disgusting price. It’s beyond ridiculous.
Must have more money than common sense.
I would be scared to see the prices for long hair.
