Curtis Stone Paid $700 For A Haircut (And Has Been Ashamed Ever Since)

If you told us TV star/chef-extraordinaire Curtis Stone paid upwards of seven hundy for a good lobster banquet, look, we’d believe it in a second. In fact, we might even yell ‘steal!’.

His hair, however, we wouldn’t have necessarily guessed was allocated quite as much budget. Honestly, a haircut would want to be able to serve you a lobster banquet for that much dosh.

Not that it’s not a fabulous chop! Now that we think about it, it’s actually quite iconic. But for $700, it sure should be!

So does Stone stand by dropping $700 on a haircut? Or does said overspend top his ‘regrets’ list? Let’s find out…

Curtis Stone’s haircut evolution

So when (and um, why) did Stone confess to this hair-centric cash splash? On an episode of the Fitzy & Wippa With Kate Richie radio show, where he told hosts Fitzy and Richie that he’s developed a taste for a new Beverly Hills hair salon while living in LA.

“Hey, the quiff’s a bit long at the moment,” Fitzy observed during the chat, going on to quiz Stone about whether he was growing it out before making a big hair move. “What are you doing with your hair at the moment? [Are you] gonna get a ponytail at some stage or…?”, he asked.

“I was going for the man bun, but I don’t know if I’m gonna make it,” Stone responded, before admitting his wife wasn’t so keen on his previous spikier style. “My wife came to me and she said ‘you can’t have the same haircut your whole life; you’ve got to do something different’.”

And something different, he did! “That’s why I just play ball,” he told Richie, when she quipped that it sounded as if his wife was getting bored of his hair. “Whatever she throws my way, I do.”

“She booked me into her hairdresser in Beverly Hills,” Stone shared. “It took me five bloody hours in this place. I had a different person to colour it, a different person to make my coffee, a different person to brush it and shampoo, and then someone to cut it.” Living the lush life, it seems! All was well until he hit the cash register…

How Curtis Stone paid $700 for a haircut

“It was $700. I called her in the car on the way home and I’m like ‘what does it cost you to get your hair cut’? And then I stopped her – I said ‘don’t tell me I don’t want to know’.”

Wise move, man – the cost of a salon appointment should only whispered in darkened street corners. Well, unless you’re Stone, spilling the cost goss for us all to hear!

For a visual reference, here he is, at an event in Beverly Hills this year, potentially only streets away from the scene of the cash-splashing crime…

Fitzy, for one, was outraged by the indulgent price. “Haven’t you changed?” he joked. “Your mates growing up, if they find out you’ve had a $700 haircut, you’re gone, son.”

“American dollars!”, Richie clarified, adding insult to injury. For the record (and you might want to take some deep breaths before reading this), with the current exchange rate, $700 USD is the equivalent of about $1015 Aussie dollars. We’re at a loss for words…

Stone isn’t claiming that’s reasonable, though! “I didn’t understand the word ‘ashamed’ like I do now, before that happened to me,” he admitted.

Look, we’re sure it was a snazzy chop (and there may have been some colour thrown in), but we hope for Stone’s wallet’s sake (and hell, for his Aussie relatability rep) that he finds a more bargain-savvy barber shop in the future.

  1. How much would be your haircut spend limit? Do you think $1000 is a ridiculous amount to spend, even in Beverly Hills? Yes it is ridiculour, I do wonder what could ever justify an amount like this to be spent on having a hair cut.

  2. not just a haircut though, but no way. On his length hair? Thats ridiculoua and I probably wouldnt be going on national radio talking about it because his wife’s hair would probably have been double. Yeah, not something I’d be sharing.
