How-to: Cate Blanchett’s Golden Globe ‘do

No matter what red carpet event she attends, Cate Blanchett is always the epitome of sophistication and style. The 44-year-old Australian actress most recently wowed at the 71 annual Golden Globe Awards, stepping out in a stunning Armani black lace gown and a perfectly coiffed faux bob. Now the Armani might be a bit of a stretch to replicate, but thanks to the help of Sharon Blaine, Global Hairstylist from Goldwell, you can achieve the same show-stopping hair by following these steps:

1. Start by creating a deep side part on the left side of your head.

2. Separate your hair into two sections horizontally (so that the parting runs across the back of your head from ear to ear.)

3. Starting at one ear and working towards the other, braid the bottom section of your hair across the nape of your neck and secure with a small band. If your braid is too long, twist it back on itself and pin it in place at the nape of your neck. This helps to remove the bulk of the hair and allows for easier styling.

4. Lightly mist the top half of your hair with Goldwell StyleSign Hot Form spray and then apply hot rollers for 30 minutes.

5. Allow your hair to cool and then thoroughly brush your curls to soften them.

6. Gently backcomb the hair along your side part for added volume and use a brush to smooth the top of your hair into a soft wave across your forehead.

7. Gather all remaining hair into a ponytail and secure with a band at the nape of your neck.

8. IF YOU HAVE LONG HAIR:

Pull on the band to make a loose ponytail and then tuck the end of the ponytail up and under and pin in place just over the braid you created earlier.

8. IF YOU HAVE SHORT TO MIDLENGTH HAIR:

Pull on the band to make a loose ponytail (you won’t have to pull it as much as you would if you had long hair) and then tuck the end of the ponytail up and under and pin in place just over the braid you created earlier. If you can still see the band, you can carefully use nail scissors to cut it away. Your hair will then expand to create a fuller faux bob.

9. Finish by setting the look with Goldwell StyleSign Magic Finish hairspray and a light spritz of Goldwell StyleSign Diamond Gloss for added shine.
