Why your hairbrush is your best styling tool

When you think about hairstyling tools, your mind probably goes straight to hair curlers or hair straighteners. But there’s one valuable tool that you might be forgetting – your best hairbrush. Whether it’s a round hairbrush or a paddle brush, this would have to be one of the most overlooked tools for creating easy hairstyles. When you think about it, having a great hairbrush is actually essential to any styling routine. Heat styling tools come and go, but your brush is the one tool in your arsenal that you’re using every single day. And when you find the best hairbrush for your hair, the sky’s the limit when it comes to creating easy hairstyles.

That’s why we were so excited to try the new Lady Jayne Professional brush range. The brushes are designed to achieve the exact hair look you’re after, with each brush addressing a specific hair concern. Every brush in the range has been created to allow maximum control, whether you’re after a sleek, polished look or a textured updo. We decided to put the new Lady Jayne brushes to the test, creating two hairstyles with the help of the Professional Porcupine Radial Brush and the Professional Vaddle™ Brush.

Warning – major hairspo ahead!

The best hairbrush for volume

Your hairbrush isn’t just for smoothing down your strands – you can also use it to pump up the volume in your hair. If you’re wanting an extra lift in your locks, the Lady Jayne Professional Porcupine Radial Brush is the round hairbrush you’ve been searching for. The ceramic copper barrel helps keep hair smooth and styled, without losing its shine.

To put this brush to the test, we’ve created a volumised ponytail look on bh’s Vanessa. Vanessa has long, thick locks so we selected the Lady Jayne Professional Porcupine Radial Brush in the large size (it also comes in a small size, which is best suited for thinner hair that’s short to medium in length).

We started by using the brush through the entire lengths of her dry hair, working section by section to achieve lots of body. Its mix of ionic and boar bristles gets right into the root of Vanessa’s hair, for maximum body and bounce. We then focused on the crown of Vanessa’s hair, where we wanted to achieve the most volume for the look.

To get a look like Vanessa’s, create volume at the roots by placing the Professional Porcupine Radial Brush underneath the hair at the top of your head. Then, using a hairdryer over the top, pull the brush at a 45-degree angle while turning the wrist up and away from the head to create a lift. Secure with a hair band and finish the look by wrapping a section of hair around the ponytail to hide the elastic. Et voilà! The perfect ponytail.

The best hairbrush for a sleek style

Want a smooth finish for your strands? Don’t we all?! The Lady Jayne Professional Vaddle™ Brush cuts down your styling time, as its 2-in-1 design combines the width of a paddle brush with the benefits of a vent brush. Ideal for medium-to-long lengths, the width allows the brush to capture more hair, while the vents allow for optimum airflow, to speed up drying time. The heat-activated copper baseplate works to conduct heat, so you can create the perfect amount of volume, movement and sleekness in your locks every time. And if you’re struggling with post-blow-dry frizz, the ionic bristles help to smooth the hair and lock in shine.

We took the brush for a test drive by creating sleek, brushed-out waves on bh’s Vanessa. We began by gently brushing Vanessa’s wet hair from roots to the tips, with the nylon bristles detangling her strands. Next, we used the Professional Vaddle Brush to dry off the hair with a hair dryer, to give the hair lots of movement without frizz.

To get sleek, brushed-out waves like Vanessa, brush and then blow dry your hair with the Professional Vaddle™ Brush. As the baseplate goes all the way around the brush, you can also use your hairdryer to achieve a flick at the ends by twisting your wrist. Once dry, use a hair straightener or curler to add waves to the hair. After you’ve finished curling and your hair has cooled, use the Professional Vaddle™ Brush to gently brush through the waves. As the ionic bristles are thick and wide apart, you can easily brush the curls out, without losing the desired wave. Spritz a small amount of hair-setting spray and you’ve got sleek, brushed-out waves – minus the frizz.
