I don’t know what it is, but lately my hair has been a limp, lifeless mess.
At first I thought it was because I was wearing my hair down everyday and subconsciously running my fingers through my strands, but then I wore it up and, despite all my efforts, it still looked dull and dreary after a day.
So I decided it must be the styling products I was using – and went cold turkey. And boy, if I thought my hair looked lifeless before, well it was worse than ever without the helping hand of mane maintainers!
Extremely annoyed and ready to all but shave my hair off in frustration (yes, I know, I can be a bit dramatic at times but I was at my wits end!), I sought the help of my hairdresser who gave me the following tips to keep my locks looking healthy and revitalised:
– If you dye your hair use a colour enhancing shampoo and conditioner (try Redken 5th Avenue NYC Color Extend Shampoo and Conditioner) and be sure to have your roots regularly retouched so they don’t appear dull and greasy when they’re not.
– Avoid washing your hair everyday as it can over-stimulate the natural oil production in your scalp and leave it feeling oilier than before. Instead, spritz some dry shampoo (try Batiste Original Dry Shampoo) into your roots between washes.
– Switch your regular shampoo and conditioner for a different brand every now and again to avoid letting your hair become desensitised to that product. Something with a lightweight formula is usually best (try Sebastian Professional Light Shampoo and Conditioner).
