What should I smell like in winter?

Although there aren’t any hard and fast rules when it comes to winter perfume, due to the drop in temperature and a subsequent lack of body heat, fragrances don’t develop as obviously on the skin in the cooler months. It’s for this reason that stronger fragrance notes tend to be a hallmark of winter fragrance profiles, with spicy gourmand notes like cinnamon, cardamom, cranberry, vanilla, and nutmeg playing heavily on the palate. Perfumes you may typically reserve for the evening usually also double as winter perfumes with ease, but if you’re unsure where to start try reaching for fragrances with richer, deeper or darker scent profiles than what you might typically wear.

In 2024, the biggest trends in winter fragrance are wood-led scents, spicy gourmand fragrances, and perfumes that elicit feelings of comfort. Try wood notes like sandalwood, cedarwood, pine, patchouli, and vetiver, or spices like pepper, cinnamon, clove and cardamom. As for cosy notes, try to source perfumes with notes of vanilla, linen and amber.
