Sleeping beauty

Tsk tsk beauties – our most recent sleep survey showed that only 29 per cent of you are getting the adequate amount of sleep each night (and by that we mean seven to eight hours).

Whether you’re too tense to wind down early, struggling to sleep once your head hits the pillow, or simply not making the most out of your time in dreamland, we’ve got the solutions to ensure a perfectly restful slumber.

Prep for bed

You dedicate time in the morning to wake yourself up, so why not set some time aside to wind down for sleep too? Soaking in a warm (not hot) bath before bed is a great way to relax your muscles and help you unwind. Try adding a few drops of Be Genki Tranquility Bath and Shower Oilto the water to really ease away the tensions from your day.

Your body temperature will also naturally fall as you step out of the bath, putting it in optimal condition for a perfect night’s slumber.  However, if you’re still finding it hard to catch those zzz’s, spritz your pillow with a lavender-scented mist, as it helps to induce sleep. We love:L’Occitane Lavender Sweet Dreams Pillow Mist.

Clear congestion

Suffering through the day with a blocked nose is bad enough, let alone the infuriating nighttime hours spent tossing and turning, attempting to breath through a blocked nose as you try to fall asleep.

But no matter how hard you try to get a peaceful slumber, if you’re victim to a blocked nose and stuffy head, you’ll be fighting a losing battle. The next day your eyes will be swollen, your nose red raw, and to top it all off, you’ll no doubt be sporting some serious dark circles to boot.

Luckily though, all hope is not lost – Otrivin Nasal Decongestant (available in a spray or nose drop form at your local pharmacy), targets the sight of congestion, and works six times faster than a tablet to unblock your nose and provide long-lasting relief. It also contains moisturising properties to soothe dry nasal passages, and ensure you have a restful night’s sleep.

Make the most of the night

Ever noticed that you tend to look that little bit older (in the sallow, droopy skin sense, not the attractive, sophisticated way) when you haven’t been getting enough sleep? That’s because while you’re in the land of nod, your skin cells are working overtime to restore, replenish and rejuvenate themselves, to help you look fresher, healthier, and ultimately more youthful when you wake.

So amongst other things, skimping on your sleep also means disadvantaging your skin. To give your cells an extra helping hand with a boost of essential nutrients, we recommend using a cream or serum specifically formulated for nighttime use, before you go to bed. Try:Kore Intact Kore Rejuvenating Night Concentrate, or Estée Lauder ANR Synchronized Recovery Complex. Coupled with the right amount of sleep, you’re guaranteed to wake up glowing come each morning!
