The Inspiration Behind Michelle Pfieffer’s Fragrance Will Make You Teary

Every fragrance has a backstory. Take any one of Ariana Grande’s perfumes and it’ll tell you a story about her journey as an artist. Or take a big inhale of any Glasshouse Fragrances candle and you’ll be transported somewhere far across the globe.

And if you’ve ever smelt the Kyoto in Bloom ($54.95 at Adore Beauty), we bet you’ll be hoping to land in Japan. In the case of movie star-turned-perfumer, Michelle Pfieffer, her source of inspiration is as personal as it comes.

What was the inspiration behind Michelle Pfieffer’s frangrance?

During a recent sit down on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast, hosted by Molly Sims, Michelle discussed the development process behind the latest launch from her unisex fragrance line, Henry Rose.

“Through this process of the perfumers constantly saying to me, ‘where does this take you? Tell us, does it take you to a place?’ I realised what I was trying to formulate was my father’s cologne,” she said.

Although her late father serving as the scent’s inspiration was largely unintentional, Michelle expertly tapped into one of the greatest powers of a good perfume. Which is? Using smell to transport us to a particular time, place or in this case, person.

“I didn’t know that’s what I was doing,” she recounted. “I didn’t know that was why I gravitated toward that particular category in fragrance is because it’s very emotional.”

And the family ties don’t end there. According to Michelle, the inspiration behind the brand’s name came from her kids. Taking the middle name from both her son and daughter, Henry and Rose cleverly combined to reflect the gender-neutral nature of the range. We love it.

  1. I absolutely love Michelle in all her movies and she is so down to earth and genuine. I will have to see what is in her fragrance now as am totally interested. Just hope no scents that I can’t use. Also didn’t know she bought out a perfume either….not seen any ads so thank you BH for letting us know here.

  2. I sampled lots of new perfumes last week but unfortunately Henry Rose was not one of them. I’ll have to look out for it. I love how certain scents remind us of people, places, or a specific time in our lives.

  3. I haven’t heard of or seen this before. I looked at the website and it is nice to see that her name isn’t splashed all over it. Hopefully that means her products stand up by themselves and not just as a celebrity product.
