I feel naked if I step out of the house without fragrance on. Completely and utterly naked. I’ve felt this way since I was around 10 years old, which is when I first discovered my need to be doused in a scented juice at all times.
This doesn’t mean I’m still wearing the same perfume I did in primary school, though. It’s quite the contrary, really, because as our bodies grow and change, our fragrance choices alter, too. But this is a wonderful thing – it forces us to create a scented journey that reads somewhat like a history book of our own lives.
MY PERSONAL FRAGRANCE JOURNEY
In primary school I wore: Impulse Body Fragrances
Like most tweens, body spray was my first foray into scents. I would spend way too much time in the beauty aisle of my local supermarket (naughtily) spraying a teeny tiny bit of each Impulse variant into its lid before selecting my favourite one. At around $3 a can at the time, it did mean spending most of my weekly pocket money in one hit, but even back then I knew fragrance was a worthwhile investment.
In high school I wore: Clinique Happy
Everyone I knew at this age was wearing YSL Baby Doll, but I couldn’t get enough of Clinique Happy’s fresh floral and citrusy notes. I would often raid my mum’s handbag and steal the little bottles of Happy she’d gathered from Clinique GWPs, mainly because I couldn’t afford my own bottle. But being a little sneaky was definitely worth it – my high school boyfriends still think of me whenever they catch a whiff of this peppy scent.
In university I wore: Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey
I first discovered this fresh, water-like scent in the bedroom of my besty’s effortlessly cool and stylish older sister while I was in high school. At the time the crisp notes were a little too grown-up for me, but fast forward a few years and this juice became my true signature scent. I still wear it to this day, and it will forever make my nose smile.
Now I wear: an array of fragrances
A handful of wonderfully crisp, fresh and subtle floral scents now reside in my fragrance wardrobe, including Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia, Chloé Roses De Chloé (available November 3), philosophy amazing grace EDT, and L’OCCITANE La Collection De Grasse The Vert & Bigarade. Each of their unique note combinations are so utterly gorgeous I often find myself wanting to wear them all at once (but I won’t, because that would be just plain silly).
What I’ve always wanted to wear: Michael Kors
I know so many people who wear this scent. So. Many. People. And they all smell AMAZING. Yet it doesn’t work on me. Not one little bit. I know this because I’ve tried to wear it 23,562 times and failed miserably. It’s just too strong for my delicate nose when mixed with my skin, so I guess I’m simply destined for a future of forever admiring it from the sidelines. But I’m OK with that. Promise.
What fragrances have you worn throughout your life? Did you opt for different scents at different ages like I did? What perfume do you wear now?
If there was no BH , would never known of Michael Kors perfumes. Never tried yet though
