Margot Robbie is a big fan of icons.

The Aussie star used her acting and producing talents to bring Barbie to life in the 2023 film of the same name. And although she’s been having a low-key year as she prepares for the birth of her first child with husband Tom Ackerley, the 34 year old has announced she’s lending her name to another legendary beauty icon — CHANEL N°5.

Chanel announced Margot as the fresh face of the perfume’s new campaign, which the brand will be unveiling in October 2024.

Margot, who’s been a Chanel ambassador since March 2018, says the opportunity to now be the face of her favourite perfume is a massive honour.

“I think CHANEL N°5 ($198 from MYER) is one of the most iconic fragrances in the world. It’s incredible to be a part of it,” she said via a press statement. “There’s such an impressive lineage of women who’ve been associated with the fragrance over the years. I am very honoured to be joining that long list of incredible talents.”

Fragrance has always been a massive part of Margot’s preparation for her roles on screen, she told Harper’s Bazaar.

“I do it for every character. Every character has a different scent, and I spend a lot of time trying to figure out who it is and what makes me be able to jump immediately into them,” she explained. “I find it really, really helpful. It’s kind of like the last thing I do before I step out of the trailer and set step onto set. It’s like the last thing to put on with the character.”

According to Margot, she thinks her taste in fragrance and fashion most closely aligned with Sharon Tate, who she played in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood in 2019.

“I just always loved that she had this black Chanel bag, so I always think of her in that way anyway, she was so feminine but independent,” Margot told Harper’s Bazaar.

Margot loves the perfume so much, she admits she actually wears it to bed sometimes.

“It feels a little indulgent because you’re like, ‘I’m just going to bed’,” she told the publication. “[But] the nice thing about perfume is that you’re doing it for yourself… You always feel like, ‘oh, God, I’m being indulgent,’ and then you’re like, ‘no, this is the point of all this, to do it for me and not for someone else.’

“I love wearing perfume to bed. I wear it every day—I love it,” the Chanel No. 5 ambassador gushed to the magazine.
