Guy Sebastian Smells Really Good And This Is Why

What do Rihanna and Guy Sebastian have in common? They both have a reputation for smelling fantastic. So much so, that Guy has ventured into the fragrance business.

Yep, the beloved Aussie singer has just launched his first perfume into Chemist Warehouse: Embrace ($49.99 at Chemist Warehouse).

The singer is a big fan of woody and oud notes when it comes to his own cologne wardrobe, but drew upon his loving relationship with his wife Jules to create a modern and romantic fragrance for women.

With fond memories of his father’s hugs leaving him with a lingering scent as a child, Guy has always been passionate about the art of fragrance.

He describes the scent as having a “complex sweetness” with notes of red currant, rose damascene and vanilla orchid. Here’s what else we found out when we caught up with Guy for the launch…

5 minutes with Guy Sebastian

On making his first fragrance…

“I was really surprised how quickly they could [interpret] what I was saying, [in terms of] what I wanted it to smell like. I would say things like ‘burning cinnamon sugar on a piece of wood — but just a little burnt’. With smell, there’s so much you can’t explain [so it’s amazing how] we arrived at [this] point.”

On the tip his makeup artist gave him…

“My makeup artist handed me a nose hair trimmer before… I guess that’s what happens when you turn 41.”

On his minimal (but luxe) skin care routine…

“I don’t know a lot when it comes to skin [but] Carol, my makeup artist, she introduced me to La Mer. The cream cleanser is so good, I’ve never had anything work so well. And then I use the normal white cream (AKA Crème de la Mer, $570 at cremedelamer.com.au). I’ve never done anything to my face, I just cleanse and moisturise.”

On his Chemist Warehouse essentials…

“I grew up playing a lot of sports and when I’m home I’m usually playing cricket or basketball with the kids in the yard. So when I’m in Chemist Warehouse I’m usually buying things like back supports, epsom salts and hydrolyte. I’m [also] a sucker for vitamins and I’ve noticed the difference with my general wellbeing — I never get sick on tour. Things like zinc, vitamin C, vitamin B, magnesium, fish oil, glucosamine a lot of multi-vitamin and immunity-based stuff.”

On his wife, Jules…

“I find her beautiful all the time. I think affection-wise, I love watching her with the boys. She’s relentlessly kind. We don’t have a nanny, she does everything. I just can’t fault her for how hard she works. People are always like, ‘how can you write so many songs about one person?’ [it’s] appreciating them in all these different lights. It’s one person through every single landmark of life. She’s my best mate.”

Quick fire…

Q: Who spends more time getting ready in the morning?

A: Me

Q: Who goes to bed first?

A: Jules

Q: Who gets up first?

A: Jules

Q: Who’s the better dancer?

A: Jules would say me and I would say Jules.

Q: Who is more affectionate?

A: Me.

Q: Who said ‘I love you’ first?

A: I think I did. But for ages, you know what we used? ‘Love your work’.

  1. Great perk for all these celebrities getting into the what I call poison industry. Artificial fragrance is toxic to the liver and so ridiculously expensive. There are other cheaper and natural ways to smell nice. Strange how he was on CA last night for a court case looking like the bad guy and now everywhere else selling his fragrance.

  2. I’m in the minority here as I am not a Guy fan. I like some one of his songs but I don’t like looking at him. As to the fragrance……as long as it’s a soft vanilla. I guess I would have to test it out for hubby first but I don’t think he would even wear it as he is not a great fan of Guy either.

  3. Oh no, definitely not a “fan” . Remember ages ago when there was a tv in my dad’s house, we watched together the “idol”, that was first and last “reality show” I’ve ever watched
