The launch of a celebrity scent generally means its namesake is at the very top of their fame game. If a super successful career and legions of adoring fans are the cake, a perfume bottle with their name on it is the icing.
But while bands break up, athletes retire and some celebs just outgrow their previous personas, we’ll always have these scents to help us relive the magic of the era that we adored them most.
Here’s our edit of celeb scents that outlasted the careers of their creators.

One Direction
One Direction Our Moment EDP ($6.99, chemistwarehouse.com.au)
Are One Direction still together? Uh, not for now – sad face. Something that’s not on hiatus however, is their perfume. Each note represents one of the 1D guy’s personalities – grapefruit for cheeky Harry, patchouli for broody Zayn, frangipani for sweet Niall, red currant for playful Louis, and sandalwood for mature Liam. So even though we can’t see 1D as a fivesome anymore, at least we can still smell like them.
Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds ($29.99 , chemistwarehouse.com.au)
It’s been almost ten years since we lost Elizabeth Taylor but her incredible legacy lives on in spades through her films and her fragrance. The very scent that motivated many other celebs to launch their own, White Diamonds opens with orange before developing into a cinnamon and rose splash and rounding out with a hint of amber. In other words, it’s as glamorous, mysterious and magnificent as the woman herself.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift Wonderstruck Enchanted ($58.95, cosmeticsnow.com.au)
Yes, it’s true, Taylor is still thriving (and her latest release Lover is chock full of tracks), but as she reminded us during the Reputation era, the old Taylor is dead. And while we’ve seen her recently return to a softer approach, her 2019 persona still isn’t made up of pristine sweetness like this pure sugar and vanilla milkshake mix (or the ballgown-wearing, fairytale-loving version of Tay who designed it).
Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton for Women EDP ($19.99, chemistwarehouse.com.au)
Okay, we know Paris is still releasing bangers (don’t fight us on this) about Kim K’s booty and all, but her songs have never quite matched the success of her scents. This sugary splash is exactly what you’d expect from a perfume with Paris’ name on it with a femme and flirty fusion of peach, apple and melon. She may have called time on The Simple Life but a simple fruity blend still does it for Paris.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson Vintage Bloom ($37.95, cosmeticsnow.com.au)
She may not be 100 per cent sure on the difference between chicken and tuna, but Jessica does know her way around a scent – a good celeb citrus isn’t easy to find, and yet this lemon-lime delight does it for us every time. With a dash of raspberry and a few peony petals added to the zesty blend it’s a summery scent any southern belle (like Jess) will want to spritz all summer.
Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan Cologne Spray ($29.99, chemistwarehouse.com.au)
The basketball legend may have retired his jersey back in 2003, and yet his cologne is still in the game in a big way. He decided to take a shot in the scent space at the height of his NBA success (shoutout to the Chicago Bulls), and let’s just say: nothing but net. It’s a refreshing yet masculine mix of green tea, grapefruit, sandalwood and patchouli with a drop of cognac for spice, and it’s certainly worthy of a champ.
Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey M EDP ($19.99, chemistwarehouse.com.au)
While Mariah is definitely set to go down in history as one of the greatest divas and vocalists of all time, and we obviously dust off her infamous Christmas tune every holiday season, she hasn’t been super active as of late. Her scent, however, never stops. In true MC form, it’s a little OTT but absolutely enchanting, made up of musk, bergamot and even a splash of Bellini. We’ll say it: we (us and this scent) belong together.
Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne Black Star ($130, priceritemart.com.au)
Was Sk8a boi a bop? Undoubtedly. But we haven’t spied Avril on the charts lately (apparently she said see ya later boy to music). With mango, hibiscus, dark chocolate and vanilla, this complex concoction is a little bit sweet, a little bit floral and a little bit gourmand. Damn Avril, why you gotta make things so complicated? Just kidding, we love it.
Which of these celebs do you love most? Do you have any other favourites?
I soo agree with you. A lot of the scents do smell very similar to one another
I have tried Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds, it is a lovely fragrance.
Mariah Carey's perfumes are excellent. They suit her well.
Don't like celebrity fragrances
I have only smelled the Paris Hilton one and it isn't so bad but I am older now so I prefer other fragrances.
