Do you associate rose scents with your dear granny, or your old aunt Fleur?
Odds are you find yourself staying away from these scents for this reason – you don’t want you resemble your 70-year-old aunt, no matter how sweet she may be.
What if I told you that the timeless rose had undergone a bit of a makeover? A revival, if you will? Well, that’s precisely what’s happened. Some of the most famous fragrance houses in the world have given their classic scents a ‘rosy’ twist – and one sniff is sure to make you wake up and smell the… well, you know the rest.
pureDKNY Rose Eau De Parfum
Featuring rose essence from the Anatolian flower in Turkey’s Isparta Valley, this pure scent is made using a generation-old process of handpicking roses, bagging petals and gently rolling them through 26 stills. You can’t get a fragrance more pure, with essential oils as concentrated as this.
Lancôme Trésor Midnight Rose
This sweet, playful fragrance contains a mischievous femininity that makes it appealing to the opposite sex and suitable to wear in the evening. The scent contains top notes of intense pink pepper, peony and blackcurrant, middle notes of intense rose absolute and bold raspberry and deep, seductive base notes of vanilla and warming musk.
Balenciaga Rosabotanica, from $125, 1800 812 663
Inspired by citrus drops and white woods, this enveloping scent uses notes of rose, milky fig leaves and cardamom to entice your nose. The bottle is also just as beautiful as Balenciaga’s previous perfume release, Florabotanica – if not more so.
Givenchy Very Irresistible, L’Eau En Rose, from $112, 02 9695 5678
After 10 years of continued success since the release of Very Irrésistible in 2003, the Givenchy fragrance house decided to zero in on the signature flower of the perfume: rose – and create a fragrance that truly captures the essence of the world’s most classic flower. Givenchy Very Irresistible, L’Eau En Rose is a universal floral designed for all women both in the depths of winter and the heat of summer. (Available from 13 April 2014).
Roses De Chloé, from $80, 1800 812 663
With rose at the very top of this scent, the development into bergamot, magnolia and rose essence assists this scent in living up to its famous predecessor, Chloé Eau de Parfum. Base notes of white musk and amber provide a depth that ensures the scent doesn’t fade too quickly.
