Remedies & Recipes for beauty & health
I know there is already a thread on face food under this topic, but I wanted to expand on that to include everything from top to toe. Your favourite beauty tips and treats from the fridge, your Gran’s recipe for a cold remedy, your favourite recipe for a hangover cure, you get the picture. I will get us started:
Have you heard of anyone having an Epsom Salts bath?
Here is why:-
Epsom salts is made mostly of Magnesium sulphate crystals. Magnesium is the second most abundant element in human cells and the fourth most important positively charged ion in the body. It is vital for many bodily functions, from muscle control and electrical impulses to energy production and the elimination of toxins. Experts say that soaking with Epsom salts at least three times a week will help you to look better, feel better and have more energy.
Researchers and physicians tell us that raising your magnesium levels may improve your heart and circulation and will lower blood pressure. It will help flush the toxins and heavy metals from the body. Most importantly it helps to reduce stress.
Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation. Researchers have found that magnesium also increases energy and stamina. When magnesium sulphate is absorbed through the skin, such as in a bath, it draws out toxins from the body, sedates the nervous system, reduces swelling, relaxes muscles, is a natural emollient (skin smoother), exfoliator, and much more.
How:
In the Bath; put 2-3 cups of epsom salts in a warm bath. This is for relaxation, lowering blood pressure, eliminating toxins (heavy metals), soothing and smoothing skin and reducing the swelling and pain in sprains, strains and bruising. You can also add a few drops of your favourite essential oil.
Foot Soak: Soothe aches, remove odours and soften rough skin, Add 1/2 a cup epsom salts to a large basin of warm water and soak for as long as you need to.
Skin exfoliator: massage handfuls of epsom salts into wet skin, starting at the feet and work towards the face. Then either rinse or add 2-3 cups in a warm bath and soak.
Splinter remover: Soak in epsom salts, it will draw out the splinter! (never tried this)
Hair treatment: combine 3 tablesoppns of deep conditioner with 3 tablespoons of Epsom salts, microwave the mixture for 20 seconds. Work the warm mixture through your hair from scalp to ends and leave in for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Promotes body and life in your hair and restores curl to permed hair.
The best thing about Epsom salts is it is dirt CHEAP
