Keep Safe Through Cyclone Alfred!

As I sit safely in my Sydney home watching the news my thoughts are with those in Southeastern Queensland & Northeastern NSW. I hope you’re all able to stay safe from Cyclone Alfred.

I was a child in 1974 when Cyclone Tracy devastated Darwin. That Christmas was traumatic as I was confronted with such shocking news footage. I didn’t want my mother to know how upset I was, so I went down to our back paddock & cried hysterically. It’s well worth starting a conversation with small children when natural disasters, such as this, strike.

I hope everyone & their families remain safe.

I am in what was the warning zone. School was cancelled for Thursday and Friday so there was no work for me. We were told we were back to work today but then the rain came and just did not stop and so the area where the school is flooded. I was up and dressed ready for work this morning but was not happy about it as i felt that there was no way we would be able to do a full day before the kids needed to be evacuated from the school. Thankfully the call was made at 6.40 this morning that school was cancelled. At the moment I am waiting to hear an offical word about tomorrow but im thinking that it might be cancelled again.

Thankfully where my home is we are fine and it would never flood here.
