I bought the Medicube Age R Booster Pro

After some time looking into this very popular 4-in-1 South Korean skincare device, I purchased it when it was on sale for around $280. The device combines these 4 technologies:

* Booster Mode: Uses electroporation and LED light to create temporary micro-channels in the skin, enhancing the absorption of active ingredients.
* Microcurrent Mode: Stimulates facial muscles to improve volume and reduce fine lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.
* Derma Shot Mode: Employs EMS to firm sagging skin and contour facial muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
* Air Shot Mode: Utilizes electric needles to improve pore elasticity and reduce pore size, creating a smoother complexion.

Official Medicube tutorial to see the device in action:

As you use the device differently depending on the mode, I’ve only learned how to use the Air Shot and Booster modes. So far I’m finding that it does help skincare absorption.

Just wondering if anyone else owns one, and to start a discussion on use and results.

Thoughts so far after using this device for around 3 weeks:

I was only using the booster mode almost daily and air shot mode every 3 days for the first 1.5 weeks following instructions. In combination with my existing routine that includes niacinamde, vit C and alpha arbutin serums, I found that my skin has been clearer, more even-toned, more glowy and pores were less visible. I

I have also learnt how to use the microcurrent and dermashot modes. I found the microcurrent mode to be quite strong, so I sometimes revert to my foreo bear (which i discovered now has 10 levels by unlocking ‘pro’ mode in the app, and I’m only on level 4, so I can still make use of that). I prefer the bear for largers areas, and the medicube for smaller areas next to the nose, under the eye etc. It’s interesting that the bear requires something quite watery, whereas the medicube microcurrent mode can be used with most things that have water (even a gel cream). I usually use the medicube MC and dermashot modes (level 1 only) one after the other in the morning after my hada labo emulsion (before sunscreen), and I like how it instantly wakes up my skin and reduces any puffiness. I do feel a difference, though visually it is not obvious.

TLDR – so far so good.

Just to clarify, my routine also includes tretinoin 0.025%, ferments and antioxidants. I don’t use the device on the nights I use tretinoin because my skin is barely handling using it every two nights, and I don’t really want to increase penetration as it would likely cause more dryness and irritation.

TIL I love the same products as Renee. Haven’t watched her videos in years. I also LOVE the Sulwhasoo Overnight Vitalizing Sleeping Mask. I have used it for years. HG. Multiple repurchases.

@Ethelinde – I haven’t used any Sulwhasoo products yet, and have noted your HG! Renee has turned 50 in recent years, and she looks great! Her content is always so informative.

Following along to hear your feedback and results Jupiter.

I’ve been wanting one for so long, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. There’s a lot of influencer and PR gifted reviews, so hard to know if these are genuine or not.

I’ve been monitoring the price too and it’s definitely more affordable now.
Can you share where you bought it?

Hi @Claire88, I bought mine from Lila Beauty when it was $280. Beauty Amora then dropped their price, but they have since sold out. It’s now $315 from Lila Beauty (they are an authorised resellers), but I reckon if you wait a bit you can get it under $300.

Thanks Jupiter, I’ll keep an eye on our future sales and offers.

I almost bought one when Stylevana had a sale on, then decided to buy the Omnilux Men’s mask instead 😝.

Looking forward to your thoughts after using it for a while.

    Sounds interesting.

@Ethelinde I’m going to try replying to you as a top comment since direct replies keep getting blocked. You can use existing serums and creams with this device. Airshot mode is to be used on dry skin. Booster mode works will with any serums that don’t absorb too quickly to allow device to glide.

I found these two youtube videos to really helpful. First is a 4 week clinical trial with photos for results.

Second is a chat with the product developer to ask in-depth questions about the product. (with English subtitles)

      Very informative, @Jupiter – thanks!

Now I’ve got to try to convince myself that I don’t need this, haha!

      • 1 mth, 1 w ago

Ha ha I have to admit it was the clinical result video that had me sold!

(BH website seems to embed YT videos automatically, I didn’t do anything special except type the link)

I’ve never heard of this, but maybe my comment will start the discussion

Ooh, that looks interesting, @Jupiter! (& I’m impressed that you could upload a YouTube clip!)

    The Microcurrent Mode sounds interesting.

What does the Air Mode feel like? Does it feel like needles?

    • 1 mth, 1 w ago

I tried the microcurrent mode for the first time last night on level 1 (the lowest level) and it felt much stronger than level 4 on my Foreo bear, I could feel things pulsating – a little bit scary! But it doesn’t zap like the Foreo bear does when your face isn’t moist enough.

The air shot mode doesn’t hurt and isn’t unpleasant at all. It feels like little tingles. I didn’t get any irritation either.

I’m still using everything at level 1.

What skincare products have you been using it with so far?

    • 1 mth, 1 w ago

@Ethelinde – Renee/Gothamista has recommendations on products to use with the device in this video

        Awesome – thank you!

I’m actually finding the Dr Lewinns Ultra R4 Collagen Surge Plumping Gel that a lot of us got for free in one of the marketplace events works really well with Microcurrent and Dermashot modes, it is a gel cream that doesn’t absorb too quickly so the device can keep gliding. Renee also mentions NIOD CAIL!

It depends on the mode – Air shot mode is meant to be used on dry skin. Booster mode works with serums (and helps increase their absorption) but I find that it needs to be a serum that doesn’t absorb too quickly so that the device can glide and not tug on the skin. With the microcurrent mode, I just use two layers of Hada Labo Gokyujun lotion (it’s like a watery essence), which is what I’ve been using with my Foreo Bear.
