Fitness trackers

Looking at buying a fitness tracker or fitness watchh.
Currently looking at reviews for them.
I walk a lot but apart from that don’t do any other exercise. Not a runner.
Just wanting something fairly basic to track my steps, calories, distance etc
My wrist is really tiny too so some of them will probably be way too big for me.

Currently looking atThe Fitbit inspire 3 and the Garmin vivosmart 5.
Probably wouldn’t want to spend more than $500 if I could avoid it.

Recommendations, experiences good or bad would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I used to wear Apple Watch for a long time. I had the Series 3, and when I bought them, they were the latest model. But now, tech has moved forward, and I don’t see the point in wearing them anymore. Maybe it’s just me, but constant notifications — whether it’s texts, calls, or alerts telling me I’ve been sitting for too long — stress me out. It really increases my anxiety. I don’t need that. Now, if I plan a workout, I use a handy to-do app like Wunderlist from this list https://setapp.com/lifestyle/the-best-to-do-list-app-for-mac . Sometimes, I just write down my workout in Reminders so I don’t forget. I just remind myself that I have a workout today without caring about how many calories I’ll burn, how many active minutes I’ll get, or how long the workout is. In short, fitness trackers only make me more anxious.

I had a Garmin & it has a long battery life before it needs recharging. Decided to upgrade to an Apple Watch approx 15 months ago (SE). Personally I feel the Garmin is a better watch.

I have had a Garmin then I have had numerous FitBits, I prefer FitBit now and they have always had the best customer service when I needed anything replaced.

I now have the FitBit Versa 2. It’s great, really pleased with it.

I mainly walk, go to the gym but I love it for the sleep and heart rate insights it provides. It is also handy having the period tracker.

@Hayley644, which one did you decide to buy?

Looking at a Garmin but my wrists are tiny so haven’t decided yet.
They do make a smaller watch but the reviews for it aren’t that great.
        It looks lovely though.

@Izzy09 – I wear mine all the time even with sleeping as I want to know my sleep patterns etc. Will check mine in the morning to see what it says. I had some problem with something on mine when I first got it and just rang them up and they were so helpful in me fixing my my watch.

Just googled and found this if it helps you.

Why does my Fitbit burn calories when I’m not wearing it?

It is merely the calories burned from breathing and moving, which your Fitbit knows from the time you set it to your account. It’s perfectly normal and the more active you are, the more calories you burn. You can’t turn this feature off, unless you remove it from your account.

I have a Fitbit versa 2 and don’t like it because I don’t sleep with it on and the calories keep clocking over even when I’m not wearing it. It resets itself at midnight but then it starts clocking over calories again and there’s no way to reset it myself each morning when I pop it on so it’s not very accurate. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know.

I have a Fitbit Sense – had it almost a year and my 2nd Fitbit. First was the cheapest you could get as I needed something for my heart rate (hiking fitness group) and the free apps on my phone were so different (heart rate) and hard to use and sooo annoying with ads! First Fitbit – band snapped (caught up in my backpack) so I got a better one on special at Harvey Norman for $224 and signed up for the premium annual subscription so you get extra features and I know when I snore!
I don’t use a lot of the features but there if I need to one day.

My daughter uses an App on her phone. A cheaper way to go.

I have the Fitbit luxe, I like it because it’s slim and has a small clock face. I mainly measure my steps and I am constantly changing the clock face design as there is option in the app to do so. I like reading my oxygen saturations occasionally. I like that these advancements in technology have allowed for monitoring of irregular heart rhythms. I like logging my water intake, my moods at different times of the day, my menstrual cycle. I also appreciate the step promoter to keep me focused on my steps goal. I also link my steps to the Qantas Wellbeing app.

I have a Fitbit Charge 4 but it probably does more than you need. If you have health insurance with Medibank get their LiveBetter app, you can use the points to get a Fitbit (although it might take a while to get enough points).

Otherwise, if you take your phone everywhere there are lots of apps on there you can use. Steps/time/distance are the most important, for me the calorie data is meaningless (and depressing if you measure against say a chocolate bar!).

If you want something basic you shouldn’t need to go anywhere near $500.
