Evian Facial Mist Controversy

Hey everyone,
I was considering putting this in the youtube thread, but honestly I think this is more important because the product (Evian Facial Mist) is widely used in the beauty community.
So, I was watching this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCT4SUogoNQ
Basically it’s about a youtuber – gossmakeuipartist – talking about his worst product of the month.
He spoke about how nitrogen is used as a propellant for the water, and how it can cause free-radical damage and kill cells instantly.
There has been a lot of debate on this, about whether nitrogen has any effect on the skin etc etc. I must confess, I love this stuff. So of course you can see that I’m slightly concerned.
I was just wondering, what are your thoughts on this, and would you continue to use the product?
I’m not quite sure whether if I use the spray as a mixing medium, or just spray it straight onto a stippling brush and then apply it to my face would be harmful, or is it just direct contact?
Just thought I would inform you all because I know a lot of you swear by it like me! x

Liquids may not evaporate on contact with air…But some people have so much heat in their skin, that some evaporation on contact with the skin could be possible…Rosecea, hormonal flare ups etc…Im personally not a fan of hydration sprays…They feel nice & are refreshing but Im not 100% convinced that they have any real benfits to the skin….Well not my skin anyway…But if it works for others then great! 🙂

I really love my Esthederm Cellular Water Spray, it is composed of elements that are identical to the water components in your skin, it keeps your skin hydrated, refreshed and harmonious, whilst restoring the skins vital energy.

Yeah unless you are living in an oven liquids don’t just evaporate upon contact with air.

Also not all waters are created equal – if they were everyone on this planet would be able to drink the water around them but we know this is not the case. So there can be a difference between tap water and Evian or whatever. I am not sure if this is the case with facial waters but in Australia and the US bottled water companies have to list the source AND the mineral ingredients of their water.

    ahh I love chemistry!

Tinkabella why would it evaporate? There’s no heated involved. Surely the water vapour would condensate and absorb into your skin.

I can see why sprays are good though. Seriously I did a 14km bike ride around the city wall in Xian in the heat, and it was soooo refreshing. It’s a nice way to refresh the skin without have to wash your face completely.

    Such a mystery topic 🙂
Zompea, I guess it would depend on what environment you were in when you sprayed the mist…Hot day, Heated office etc…The evaporation would occur in those environments quiet rapidly….So I guess it’s just a matter of seasonal & environmental variables in terms of the evaporating! 🙂

chem is goood hahah explains everything

Maybe if you lived in the sahara desert or the Amazon evaporation will occur 😉 teehee

ahhh makes sense. I don’t think the air is hot enough to cause the water to evaporate, only the surface it hits. Don’t think my face is hot enough to evaporate it either. lol my brain hurts from all this logic!

i guess you cannot believe everything you read!

I dont think that after reading some of these posts that i would bother buying something that has alot of serious and unanswered questions surrrounding it . I had a sample of spritzers that i got from a body shop and this was awhile ago and i have to say that i did like to use it on a hot day…but as i said it was while ago now. I would rather just put a few drops of natural ingredients into a spray bottle just to have on hand on a hot day to refresh myself but definately no chemicals..
