Do you color your hair at home?

Since having my second child I have been coloring my hair at home by myself. I use Loreal Excel 10 – I love the colors and that it only takes 10mins and you can wash it out.

I used dark brown, and then decided I wanted to change my hair to a chocolate brown/light brown, but when I did it, my regrowth came out the right color but the rest of my hair is pretty much still dark brown with a tinge of reddy/browny color.

Any advice/suggestions on this???

Should I try the light brown again and see if it does give me the color I want or should I go to a hairdresser?

Colouring Hair from home is a great way to save money and makes it easy. I will tell you that you will not be able to colour your hair lighter over a darker hair colour you have put in. You should use MYHD HAIR COLOUR REMOVER, it is not a stripper or a bleach, MYHD HAIR COLOUR REMOVER opens hair cuticals to let the colour pigment out unlike bleach which distroys the hair. when it comes to colouring your hair lighter than your natural, it depends on the developer that is used with the colour, box colours like the one you are using would only be using a 10 or 20 volume developer, this will only lift your hair colour one or two shades before depositing the colour. i use Myhd hair colour i get it from Pricline. I have a dark brown hair so i use there 30 volume developer to get my hair to a light golden brown that a box colour like loreal could not do.

i hope this can help you.

I’m not sure if this is mentioned before (prehaps Im replying too late also lol)
Make sure you concentrate the hairs on the nape of your neck as well as behind the ears.
They are usually the part where it gets the least colouring.

As for the hairs on top of your head, you can start applying the formula when your half way through your whole head, so it’s evenly distributed in the end- then work your way through your whole head.
Also once your done you can leave it longer then it usually says on the packet, maybe for another 10mins to 15mins. I usually do this so for impact lol.

Sorry if this sounds tricky! But I have been DIY dyeing my hair for ages! And lets say I’ve been pretty happy with the results (unless it’s just a fluke lol)

Yes I’m afraid nothing will change the black once its black it stays black, unless you get it stripped which should only be done by a hairdresser if you want to keep your hair in ok condition. Good luck with whatever you decide 🙂
Oh I am trying to grow out my black hair and I got a Loreal one last time, and I am so disgusted by the colour, it is really disappointing, it was a shade of brown but on the top half of my hair that is just all the regrowth it just looks like a light orange brown, totally yuckko, I used the Loreal Preference in Natural Brown and I am not impressed, if I am going to end up sticking to this I will have to find a much nicer brown shade than this, I am shuddering at the thought of that colour all over, haha, nope it is definitely not me, I guess I am just so use to black, black, black for as long as I can remember, oh well if all else fails I know I what colour I will be safe with, lol.

xCherrybliss I’d just use a gloss and no colour, it’ll make your hair extra shiny but won’t change the colour. Just remember that with black hair the regrowth will be really obvious so ask yourself if you can deal with constant recolouring or living with regrowth. Otherwise try a semi with a blue, red or purple base for a bit of shine and colour, mostly in strong light, without comitting to longterm. Or you can try the foils that Mich uses and I’m going to order very soon, the link is above. It’d be an easy way to add very different colours to your hair without damaging your hair.

Dont quote me as im not 100% but i always thought normal hair dyes were not strong enough to lighten hair, you might get a hint of colour but generally not much lighter.

Im lucky, i had blond highlights, now i dont have time or money to go to the hairdressers so i do a dark home job! But i was told to do brown with hint of red so the highlights didnt go green!!!

So i have black hair right now and i am always scared to even start dying my hair since my hair is literally jet black… My friend recently stripped her hair colour to a light brown but i can see her hair is very damaged now.

Do you beauties know of any hair dyes that can be done at home that actually gives a medium brown without the use of bleach… or is that a crucial step that you must take…?

Yes I have heard that anti dandruff shampoo can fade hair – may give it a try! I am definitely going to the hairdressers to get my hair lighter, i think its safer to get the result i want!

I colour my hair with a home kit – and have been doing for years (ive been every colour under the sun!!!) and in my past experience i wouldnt really recommend lightening it at home – because its stripping natural colour off the hair strands its quite hard to get it exactly the shade you wish) – however ive always had a good result going darker – and if it doesnt quite come out how you had hoped then a handy tip is to use anti-dandruff shampoo which calms it down / fades it slightly quicker than washing with regular shampoo!

I’ll occasionally get foils and that way as they grow out I can use semis to add different colours and to hide the regrowth. I get bored pretty quick with my hair but I’ve been pretty good lately although I am definitely getting some of the DIY extensions that Mich has mentioned in BQs thread.
