Body Sunscreen Recommendations

Hi all,

Just wondering what body sunscreen(s) you’re loving at the moment. I aways apply my facial sunscreen but don’t really use anything on my body. I really need to change that. Doesn’t need to be waterproof. I don’t get a lot of sun generally but always nice to know I’ll be protected if I’m outside for extended periods.

Been a few months now but I religiously use Ultra Violette Bod Brigade (the large version of Extreme Screen SPF 50+ for the body. Very light and non-greasy. Excellent protection. I keep a pump bottle at home and in the office.

Nivea UV super water gel SPF 50 pa+++ it will give you instant protection and it doesn’t leave a white cast but dewy finish on the skin.

An Aerosol is good enough for me. I don’t get sunburnt when using it.

I’ve read that body sprays don’t really cut it as most people don’t apply enough for it to provide you with sufficient coverage.

I quite like Hamilton, Cancer Council and Nivea. Nivea have a 3 in 1 which moisturises as well.

Agree with the banana boat. My daily body sunscreen. As well as the wet skin la Roche. Both very good. Bondi sands body sprays are good too.

For my bod, I like the Banana boat ones that have ‘dry touch’ written on them. It helps the sand not to stick so much.

I would also recommend Hamilton sunscreens (you can buy them from Chemist Warehouse). They are a dupe for Mecca’s sunscreens (I am loathe to recommend Mecca’s sunscreens though – love them but hate Mecca and will not support them if I can help it).

Thanks for the recommendations. I’ve heard great things about the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Wet Skin Sunscreen SPF 50+ one. I’ll be sure to check out some of the others too.

Natio Moisturising Sun Lotion SPF 50+. It’s non greasy, fragrance free and doesn’t leave a white cast.

@Skincare Aussie: you say you want to be protected if you’re outside for extended periods – you ought to rethink that! Aus leads the world in skin cancer, so you should wear it daily. I apply it to my arms, neck, décolletage (quick to show premature ageing) & the back of my neck if I wear my hair up. I wear it year-round, not just through summer.

      Totally agree with you.

      @Skincare
Aussie, if you take nothing away from this post, take this bit of advice from me: WEAR THE DAMN SUNSCREEN. Not just on your face, but ALL OVER.

I’ve had 2 non-melanomas taken out of my face, as well as had 2 suspicious lesions removed in one way or another, all due to my own past stupidity regarding sunscreen….and I’m only 38. Granted, I have 2 of the risk factors for skin cancer (fair skin, light coloured eyes), but I should’ve known better and now I live with a scar on my forehead, reminding me everyday of that stupidity. My aunt has just found out that the melanoma she had removed from her body months ago has returned. I’m not entirely sure whether a lack of sunscreen was the reason why she got one, but my guess is that probably had something to do with it. Please don’t be like us, otherwise you could end up scarred or worse.

(Oh & don’t even get me STARTED on the whole pro-tanning movement that has supposedly sprung up again in certain social media circles; it just makes me VERY mad.)

As for sunscreen, I use The Cancer Council’s Face Day Matte Sunscreen for Face & Body. I go through a large tube of that pretty much every month during the warmer months. I find it’s lightweight enough for me to tolerate on our hot & at times sticky days. During the colder months I switch to their Sensitive sunscreen as my skin can tolerate the heaviness (it’s a physical sunscreen, as opposed to the Face Day Matte, which is a chemical sunscreen).

I have a friend who has about 20 removed from her back, face and neck. She usually sees a plastic surgeon for the ones on her face. So far haven’t had any. So lucky I guess.
