Best department store Skincare?

So I have really dry skin, I moisturise and cleanse daily and still my skin is so dry. And I was wondering if you girls have any skincare secrets you could share with me? And some product recommendations?
Especially if there is any Beauticians out there, this would be a great help to me!!

Cleansing and moisturising is all good and well but if you aren’t using the right products for your skin type then you’re going to be flogging a dead horse.

More information would be needed to see where the problems are.

What products are you currently using?
Is your skin tight, flaky, patchy?
What is your age? (ballpark is fine if you don’t want to disclose specifically)

Currently I’m using Akin Scrub 2-3 times a week, Body Shop Vitamen E Toner and Cleanser, and Coconut Oil for Moisturiser.
It’s a bit red around the cheeks, and I seem to have a few blackheads on my nose, but there isn’t really any specific skin concerns, just general dryness.

    Oh and I’m 22.

As a start try reducing the amount of times per week you use your scrub. I also have dry skin, and although exfoliation is important for everyone, if you over exfoliate it will just make your skin dryer (likewise if someone with oily skin over exfoliates it makes their skin more oily).

I didn’t know over exfoliating on oily skin would make it oilier. Thanks for the advice!

When you strip the skin of all natural oil (through over exfoliating), the skin needs to compensate by producing more oil, therefore makes your skin more oily.
Exfoliating is great, but all in moderation 🙂

I have super dry skin and always have had. I find a foaming cleanser is fine and easy to use in the morning with a face washer. I highly recommend adding an A’Kin moisturiser such as their Rose Day cream. At night use the oil as well.
    Hope this helps 🙂

So many good suggestions already, but I’ll throw my two-cents in too just for a bit of variety.

Your current products (Akin, Body Shop, coconut oil)… It sounds like you gravitate toward more natural/organic products. Good idea! Dr. Hauschka has some AMAZING products. Their cleansers are so gentle and moisturising. I used to get a bit dry, flaky and tight in the face as well – especially in winter (when I don’t feel like drinking quite as much water as I do in summer). Dr. Hauschka was tremendously helpful with helping me rid myself of that dryness problem. You can find their products in some health food stores as well as online. Check out adorebeauty.com.au – free, fast shipping, great prices, samples with your purchase (and a cute little Tim-Tam :)), and excellent service. Also visit Dr. Hauschka’s website. Their philosophy about skincare is quite different from almost everyone else in the industry, but it makes a lot of sense and their products work. It’s worth a read to see if any light bulbs go off for you too.

Another fabulous product is Egyptian Magic. It’s a mixture of olive oil, propolis, royal jelly and a few other things that I can’t think of right now – but it’s a wonderful, natural, healing concoction that you can use for any skin issue. That’s available at adorebeauty.com.au as well.

Another suggestion – unless you’re allergic, eat some almonds every day. That will really help plump up, soften and moisturise your skin from the inside out. I haven’t had any skin issues in a very long time, so I finally found the right solution for my skin. But since you seem to be having the same problems I had, maybe some of those things will work for you as well. It’s a lot of trial-and-error, but eventually you will find the right stuff.

What kind of cleanser are you using? I’d go for a cream one if i was you.
I’d probably go for a line that has dedication skincare for dry skin, you could try Dermalogica.
They have skin starter kits that give you a taste of the different products and find out if they suit you. I use the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense Moisturiser which is for really dry skin.

I would recommend no foaming products when cleansing, only use cream based stuff. Also a designated day cream and also one for night, if the coconut oil isn’t doing enough for you it’s time to change it up.
