Zoe Saldaña’s Glam Team Share The Star’s Red Carpet Prep Routine

With every appearance on the red carpet, Zoe Saldaña confirms her status not just as a Hollywood powerhouse, but also as a genuine beauty icon. Her effortless elegance, combined with an ethereal glow, captivates audiences and fashion critics alike. Behind this refined look is the magic touch of her trusted celebrity makeup artist, Vera Steimberg. In partnership with Zoe’s hairstylist Mara Roszak, the glam team duo create magic every single time.

Vera, who also works with Zoe onset, recently shared in The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 Beauty Issue that “Zoe loves to play with makeup and different looks, so it gives me the freedom and challenge to change it up all the time.”

For Zoe, however, it’s the more natural looks that she gravitates towards. Speaking on her longtime makeup artist’s work, she told the publication: “She has such deep consideration for skin, but her specialty, really, is understanding and working with women of color. So within that tonal rainbow of BIPOC women, Vera has made it her passion to complement each of those skin tones she works with in a way that’s always so beautiful.”

Combined with her hair artist, Mara, who she describes as “a sculptor”, the trio continuously make red carpet magic.

Here, we unravel the secrets of Zoe Saldaña’s red carpet beauty routine…

Skin care prep

Zoe’s glowing skin starts with hydration. As revealed in an interview with Net-A-Porter, Vera likes to prep the skin with face rollers, ice globes and under-eye patches (she gravitates to the luxe side with Augustinus Bader, $192 at Cult Beauty).

Light touch base

Vera champions a more natural look, blending foundation with moisturiser to let the skin shine through.

“Being a solid, polished shade from forehead to chin looks artificial,” she shared. Freckles and natural colouring aren’t covered up, maintaining a natural, radiant look.

Natural eyes

For events like the Oscars, Vera opts for Chanel Ombre Liquid Eyeshadows ($55 at Myer), praising their ability to provide a sheer and natural pigment. They can be spread over the lid or combined with a darker shade to create depth.

Subtle contouring and glow

Contouring is approached with a less-is-more mindset for a fresher look. With an emphasis on highlight, Zoe’s red carpet makeup includes minimal blush and bronzer.

Cream products like the Westman Atelier’s Liquid Super Loaded ($89 at Westman Atelier) are staples.

Lip definition

According to Zoe’s makeup artist, lipstick is essential. To enhance and make lips appear fuller, she advocates using a lip liner slightly darker than the lipstick color for added dimension.

Mara Roszak often incorporates her own hair care line, Roz Hair, into her client’s styling sessions.

She recently shared the details behind a recent hair look of Zoe’s on her Instagram page. Her first step? Prepping the hair with her Santa Lucia Styling Oil ($75 at Lume) on damp hair. After rough-drying Zoe’s strands, Mara then blew out the roots with “a natural bristle round brush, adding a touch more styling oil around the face.”

She completed the look with a 1.4 inch curling iron and finished with her brand’s Milk Hair Serum ($85 at Lume) “for definition and shine”. And as per usual with Zoe’s sublime hair looks, there was plenty of both!
