“Your kids stink,” Modern Family’s Julie Bowen says.
“They’re either not covering it up at all or they’re covering it up with something that smells a whole lot worse. You don’t need another candle and you can’t throw the whole kid away! What you need is this…”
Introducing JB SKRUB, Julie Bowen’s skin care line targeted to tween and teen boys. While the range is inclusive of every gender, the actress designed the range with her “smelly” sons in mind.
After launching her brand in January 2023, the star has built a considerable TikTok presence surrounding her brand’s key messaging; “Pits, nuts, butts.”
The body and skin care line consists of a face wash, body wash, body spray, face wipes and face lotion which are designed to be simple to use.
“Our body wash even has instructions on the bottle that says ‘Pits, nuts, butts’ – in that order. Come on, they’re not going to forget that!” Julie explains.
The mother joined forces with former Condé Nast Director Jill Biren to bring the range to life. Their combined mission: to make life easier (and less stinky) as boy mums.
“We love our boys, but they stink. It’s something that’s long gone unaddressed (though not unnoticed). The struggle – and smell – is real. For dudes who are definitely not little, but not quite men. What they need are safe, gentle, simple to use products that are designed for them by them,” the brand’s site reads.
JB SKRUB products
Their body wash, titled ‘The Body Wash’ ($32 at JB SKRUB), for example, comes in an easy-to-use pump pack and lathers into a foam.
Formulated with gentle ingredients such as aloe vera and green tea, the product is pH-balanced and scented with a natural citrus fragrance.
When speaking with New Beauty Julie explained that The Face Pads ($32 at JB SKRUB) were the biggest hit with her boys; “Those little white, pre-acne bumps kids get around 11 or 12? My kids were thrilled to see them disappear after they regularly used The Face Pads.”
As for her personal favourite? The Face Lotion ($29 at JB SKRUB).
“It’s one item in our launch line that I definitely steal for myself. It’s incredibly gentle and still moisturising.”

How old were you when you started using skin care products?
I started the first year out of high school. My Mum enrolled me into a grooming & deportment school to learn about how to look after my skin.
I started using skincare when I was around 12-13 but that was mostly cleansers and acne treatments
She has tapped into a market that many don’t think about. Good for her. Teenage boys are starting to care about hygiene.
You are correct, mostly all are aimed at us women and girls.
Probably began in my early teens when I started reading teen magazines
Yes Chrystalage that was me too.
I remember being about 16 when I started on skincare products. My mum always said if you use one thing make sure it’s for your eyes first which I have done since age 16. I had a boy who yes would stink just going to the letterbox and when he got to the age of 15, he started asking for nice smelly things for boys. Wasn’t too much around back then as he is now 36. Good on Julie. What gorgeous little boys she has as well.
Great idea as young boys smell sooo bad. Anything to get them to get a good process started.
I was a teenager, but can’t remember the age exactly.
I think I was around 15 when I started using skincare products. This range is a great idea for teenage boys.
Another celebrity brand, poor things really needs the money.
Fantastic, I have a teen boy that now uses cleanser and pimple patches.
Okayy I didn’t realise boys stank lol – I had three girls! Thankfully they learnt how to use shampoo at an early age but I admit my youngest detested showers!
I love the Pits, Nuts and Butts theme as that would work for most young boy teens.
Would there be much of a market in that age group?
Good for her.
In my late 30s. When joined BH , around that time
That’s a market that not many think of. Good on her.
I love this! I have a 15 yo son, I know what she means about them being smelly lol
Yeah and great to teach them young before they become smelly young men!
I kinda started when I was 16 ad over the years started learning more and applying more different products
I started getting zits at 10 or so – years before my classmates. I’ve been using Clear-sighted for decades.
The body wash instructions made me laugh.
Autocorrect error – I typed clearasil, not Clear-sighted.
The JB SKRUB body wash looks like a nice bright bottle to have in ones bathroom.
Definitely a group that does not receive much attention.
I can’t remember when I started using skincare products, I think maybe around 13 when I started to breakout.
While I think the JB SKRUB products looks and sounds great ( lathers up to a good foam) I think it is quite expensive and children are inclined to use a fair bit of this product??
