Jada Pinkett Smith has taken to Instagram to share a public update on her journey with alopecia.
Posting two selfies as a past and present comparison, her ‘present’ image reveals that she is now rocking a platinum pixie cut.
“This here hair is act’n like it’s try’n [to] make a comeback. Still have some trouble spots but — we’ll see,” the 51-year-old captioned the post.
The actress first shared news of her alopecia diagnosis In 2018 on her show Red Table Talk.
The Australia Alopecia Areata Foundation Inc. defines the condition as “an auto-immune disease that results in hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere on the body.”
“It was terrifying when it first started,” Jada said at the time.
“You know, I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair in my hands. I was like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?’”.
Her experience with the condition was amplified on a larger scale at the 2022 Oscars when her husband Will Smith slapped award presenter Chris Rock after he made a joke about Jada’s shaved head.
Regardless, the actress has remained candid about her journey with hair loss by sharing honest updates with her followers.
Just two years ago she shared a video on Instagram speaking on her experience with the condition.
Showing off her freshly-shaved head, she pointed to her scalp: “Now, at this point, I can only laugh. Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here. Look at that.”
“It just showed up like that and this is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide. So I thought I’d just share it so y’all are not asking any questions,” she explained further.
The video’s caption read; “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something😜 Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!😆”

Have you ever experienced the complications that come with alopecia?
Thankfully I have no experience with Alopecia, it must be very hard to deal with.
Neither have I. I don’t know anyone who suffers from it
Any illness is hard to deal with and must be a shock. not only for ones self but the rest of the family
No thankfully I haven’t
She’s beautiful and I can’t believe she’s over 50!
It must be such a shock to loose all your hair. She still looks lovely.
She does, such great cheekbones
The incident was unfortunate but it did raise awareness of alopecia.
Yes and I think people need to learn kindness and empathy

No I haven’t thankfully.
An interesting condition
I have never had this problem and can’t imagine how hard it would be to deal with.
No, it must be so difficult to deal with it.
It was an interesting timing, just when she promoted a first ever drug launch to “treat” alopecia. And advertise.
I have not. Either way she still looks beautiful.
She is totally beautiful and brave.
I periodically go through bouts of excessive hair shedding due to thyroid disease, but thankfully no bald spots. I’d hate to have to deal with alopecia.
I think it would be devastating living with alopecia. She’s a very brave, and beautiful, lady.
She is very brave and managers to still stay lovely
Hair is such a surprisingly big part of your self image – something like this would be a challenge to handle.
She didn’t mention if this is natural regrowth or not.
