CAUTION: is this Lady Gaga’s most controversial campaign yet?

Nudity. Miniature muscle men in underpants. A Batman-like mask. One badass fragrance bottle filled with black juice. Yep, just when you thought you’d seen and heard enough about the female form on bh this week, Lady Gaga goes and gets completely naked for the campaign of her debut fragrance, FAME.

Sexual? Yes. Intriguing? Oh yeah. A little weird? Most definitely. But in Lady Gaga terms, this is rather tame, actually.

Miss Gaga released the imagery of the FAME fragrance campaign via her website Little Monsters earlier this week. Learning from the ‘leaking’ incident that saw her sacred bottle shots released online by a silly fashion editor, this time LG made sure she got in first. Yes, being the ballsy, erm, lady that she is, she’s taken all her fragrance PR into her own hands and has released sneak peeks on her own terms. I love it.

Don’t know much about the actual juice? We broke the notes down in full here, but we must mention what intrigues us most about this scent: the breakthrough black-to-clear fluid technology. That’s right – although FAME appears dark and moody in the flacon, it becomes colourless once airborne. And, just to get even a little more crazy, this perfume ditches the traditional top, middle and bottom note hierarchy of regular scents, with Lady Gaga instead opting for a juice where all the notes interact harmoniously together, thanks to their complimentary properties. Smart and inventive.

But what does the star herself have to say about all this?

“Enjoy the first ever fragrance from Haus Laboratories. FAME, a beautiful prospect with a dark heart,” says Gaga.

Damn, I was hoping she’d bring up those almost naked Gulliver’s Travels-esque men and their hilarious nappy pants. Bummer. Maybe next time we can talk about their amazing talents for strategically covering your naughty parts…

What do you think of Lady Gaga’s FAME fragrance campaign? Do you find it offensive? Or is this just the type of controversial advert you expect from the star?

PS. Missed the Lady Gaga fragrance bottle reveal? We’ve got the pics. And if you’re having trouble choosing a scent that’s absolutely perfect for winter, we’ve got that sorted too…
