  1. 1)A – The active ingredient that gives your skin a tanned colour is dihydroxyacetone – more commonly known as DHA.
  2. 2)C – DHA causes a chemical reaction with the amino acids in the dead skin cells on the skin’s surface.
  3. 3)B – You should always exfoliate before applying fake tan. This will ensure you have a more even tan.
  4. 4)A – Most fake tans don’t contain an SPF, so if you’re going out into the sun, always wear a sunscreen.
  5. 5)C – Types of self-tanners include lotions, sprays and mists, mousses, pills, and gels.
  6. 6)B – A fake tan will take between two and four hours to darken and will continue to darken for up to 72 hours.
  7. 7) B – Ella Bache has a fair few self-tanning products in its range, including Great Bronzeup, Great Moussetan, Great Spray Tan, Great Sunkiss, and Great Tan without Sun. Dove has released a gradual tanner, Summer Glow Body Lotion, while Maybelline New York does not yet have a self tanner in its product range.

While most self-tanners don’t completely wash off in the shower, body bronzers and bronzing lotions can be washed off. Unless otherwise indicated on the packaging, fake-tan products won’t protect your skin from the sun’s rays.
  9. 9) C – When applying fake tan, use latex gloves or a mitt to keep your hands clean. Alternatively, if you choose not to wear either, make sure to wash you hands immediately after the application.
  10. 10)A – Lemon juice can be used to help remove your fake tan, as it’s a natural bleaching agent.
