Meet Nic and Natalie.
Natalie works here at beautyheaven; she enjoys a good red lipstick, long walks on the beach and leaving her legs unshaven for days (and sometimes weeks) on end. Please, hold your gasps.
Nic is Natalie’s boyfriend; he enjoys playing sports, eating lasagna and the times when Natalie bothers to shave her legs.
Natalie claims that she doesn’t shave her legs often because her legs will generally feel prickly again the next day, which makes it seem like a waste of time. She also feels as though the hairs on her legs don’t grow that fast, so she never feels really hairy or anything. Nic feels differently.
So, we decided to help. We armed Natalie with a Schick Hydro Silk shaver, an unbranded competitor razor, and gave her strict instructions to use the Schick razor to shave her right leg and the competitor razor to shave her left leg. She also wasn’t allowed to tell Nic which razor was used for which leg. We then had Nic come in to our office three times over the course of a week to conduct a ‘touch-test’ to see which razor (if any) gave Natalie the soft, silky legs he’s always wanted. Nic’s first visit: one day after shaving

Nic: “Her leg feels really soft, like she has no hair at all. It’s kind of weird, I’m used to some kind of prickly feeling, but it’s really smooth and really soft, too.”
Competitor-shaved leg:
Nic: “This leg is pretty smooth too, she has a couple of tiny nicks I can feel, but maybe she just missed a spot. But overall it’s quite smooth too.”
Nic’s second visit: three days after shaving
Schick Hydro Silk -shaved leg:
Nic: “This leg still feels pretty much the same as the other day. Her skin feels softer too. I think she’s been using creams. Have you?”
bh: Nic, back to the task please.
Nic: “Sorry, well yeah, I can’t feel any prickly areas at all, this is great.”
Competitor-shaved leg:
Nic: “I can definitely feel that the hairs are coming back again. They’re not that long yet but I can see them too. This isn’t the Schick leg is it?”
BH: Not telling.
Nic’s third visit: one week after shaving
Schick Hydro Silk -shaved leg:
Nic: “I can feel a few tiny hairs coming back around her shins but nowhere else yet. Her knees and ankles are still smooth and so are her calves.”
Competitor-shaved leg:
Nic: “You really need to have another shave babe. Oh sorry, um, well her legs are definitely hairy again. It’s not bad for a week, but the other leg is definitely less hairy and, yeah, that’s the one I like better.”
Conclusion:
Our boyfriend-led touch test found that the Schick Hydro Silk Razor delivered the closest, most effective shave both instantly and over the course of a week. We also found that Natalie’s Schick-shaved leg was more nourished and hydrated than the leg that was shaved with the competitor razor.
