Well, this look didn’t so much divide an entire nation as it did an office – the beautyheaven office.
I, especially, am incredibly torn over Jennifer Hawkin’s latest race day get-up.
Part of me loves Jen’s carefree approach to what is supposed to be a serious, semi-conservative occasion. And the other part of me doesn’t know what she was thinking.
The truth is that this look is riddled with as many misses as it is hits – and I’m about to make an example out of Jen (who we love, mind you) so that you can be sure to get it right on race day.
What Jen did well: the tan
Beach-loving Jen is no stranger to a gorgeous glow – but since launching her own tan brand (Jbronze) we know she prefers a safe, sun-free tan. Her glow is even, natural and provides her with the hint of colour needed to make her blue frock and erm… yellow ears, pop. To get the look for yourself, you need a spray tan that can deliver natural colour and a long-lasting, streak-free finish. We love SunFx WhiteOut because it ticks all of the boxes. It also delivers an even spray from virtually any angle, so applying it yourself is practically foolproof. To carry the glow up to your face like Jen, we recommend using Jbronze Flawless Face Tan.
What Jen didn’t do so well: the ears
Maybe it’s because they’re pointy? Maybe it’s because they’re a pale yellow colour, or maybe it’s because they’re hairy – but something about these ears is slightly gremlin-like, don’t you think? Now I’m all for the new cat ear trend that celebs like Lauren Conrad are making big but there’s something about this look that a good fascinator would certainly fix. We think this orange Gregory Ladner one from MYER would be perfect with her blue frock, don’t you?
What Jen did well: the highlighter
Jen’s skin isn’t just tanned – it’s glowing, too! This is an important factor in a race day look where you’re (tastefully) baring a bit of skin, as it can help your skin to look healthy and nourished as well as define your contours. We suggest trying SunFx Body Shimmer over your entire body, even on the high points of your face, as not only will its formula of shea butter, sweet almond oil and macadamia oil deeply nourish your skin, it will work to extend the life of your tan, too.
What Jen didn’t do so well: orange make-up
It can be said that those with baby blues as brilliant as Jens can get away with wearing most make-up hues, but there’s something about her orange-tinged eyeshadow that doesn’t sit quite right with me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the peachy matte lip, but personally I would’ve opted for a taupe/bronze smoky eye that gave her peepers more definition. We love MeMeMe Eye Inspire Quad Collection.
