Working in the beauty industry, we’re constantly on the lookout for the latest trends. Remember last year’s almond nail trend? Or the ultra long nails Rihanna sported the year before that?
2015 is only a few months old, but it’s already delivered a seriously cool trend – textured nail polish. With celebrities, bloggers and the who’s who of beauty cottoning on, we’re predicting a textured mani is the next big thing.
So, what is textured nail polish?
Textured nail polish is just like normal polish, but instead of that slick, shiny finish we’re used to, it offers a – you guessed it! – textured finish.
More dimensional than your standard nail polish but not quite 3D, textured nail polish adds a little interest to your mani. Leather, latex, crackle, caviar, velvet and sand are among some of our favourite finishes, so it’s safe to say it’s for the more daring beauties!
Why is it so good?
Firstly, it nixes the need for a topcoat. You don’t want a smooth surface, so there’s no point! Textured nail polish also lasts a lot longer than normal nail polish. The small pieces latch onto your nails, and don’t let go (well, at least for around a week).
Who’s wearing textured nail polish?
Rihanna, Katy Perry and Kesha have all been spotted with textured nails. Alexa Chung has even collaborated with Nails Inc. to create her own textured polish range.
How do I wear it?
Rihanna, Katy Perry and Kesha all wear the trend on their long, talon-style nails. However, we recommend taking a leaf out of Alexa Chung’s book and applying the polish to short, rounded nails. This is better suited for work and day-to-day wear. Go for soft make-up and pared-back hair, and let your nails do the talking.
